Case Trimming an Oddball Cartridge
« on: February 13, 2004, 11:12:02 AM »
I need to even up the cases I shoot in the 12.7x44R rolling block.  I need to find a trimmer that has .512" pilots, and handles a case less than 1.70".  The Forster can do .50, but only does cases 1.85" and longer (or some such number).

Any thoughts?  It looks like I might have to get one and make a pilot, but I would rather not go there if I can help it.

Forster makes a .510" pilot, and you can drill a couple of holes in the base of your trimmer to move things a bit closer.

Check with Lee products.  I use both Lyman and Lee trimmers, satisfied with both.

My Forsters have a .490" or so cutter, so would slide inside a .500" case mouth.
I couldn't quickly locate my Lyman, but the RCBS's cutter was about .577" dia.
Maybe it's time for me to get a ¾" piloted countersink for use in a  drill press for my Snider cases.
I guess they could be sized small for trimming, then opened out and anealed for loading.
Cheers from Darkest California,
Ross
