Texas school board bans Confederate battle flag from district property and events  Published December 18, 2012
Associated Press    BUDA, Texas –  A Central Texas school board is banning the Confederate battle flag from district property and district-sponsored events.
Hays board members voted 5-2 Monday to amend the student code of conduct to ban the flag, which was formerly displayed with the Hays High School Rebel mascot. The ban also covers any imagery deemed to be racially hostile, offensive or intolerant.

The action comes after two students were accused of writing racial slurs and urinating on the door of a black teacher's classroom in May at Hays High. The school is in Buda, 15 miles south of Austin.
In October, the Hays board decided to keep "Dixie" as the school fight song. The Confederate anthem has been known to evoke the traditions of proud state and region, but also slavery and prejudice.

I was born and raised as a yankee, but that flag is part of history. leave it alone.
I don't approve of peeing on a teachers door however...

The confederate flag has no more business being displayed in a public school than a Mexican flag. At least Mexico is still a country.

A lot of folks wish that the south had won the war.  they didn't, but for petes sake allow the south to display their history.  oh I forgot, as a liberal they must do as you say.
sorry Confederates, the thousands of southern soldiers who died, are not worth remembering.

Yes they are worth remembering, in the history books. A lot of good Germans died in WWII, many of their descendants now live in the USA, should the Nazi flag be displayed in schools that they attend?

good grief, the south is part of the USA.  it's not the flag of another country.
but I'll give you the last word.  that's how you liberals win arguments, people just get tired of liberals whining and let you have your way.  see'ya

I've often wondered what things would be like if there had been no civil war and the US split into two countries. I think it would eventually have been one of the world's great alliances and would have made North America a better place. Currently we have this fragile regionalism that doesn't seem to do much except cause tension within one overly large country.

I'm a d***ed yankee to lots of folks, but my beautiful adopted daughter is a Texan and has a large beach towel which is the battle flag.  don't bother me.   I think that any tension is caused by a minority of idiots who are miserable in their own skin.

I fly the flag (second national) in honor of my ancestor:  Captain William J Reese; Reese Battery; Jefferson Davis Artillery; Army of Northern Virginia.  And will continue to do so as long as I am physically able.

I live in what is arguably the most "southern" of all the states:  Mississippi.  Heck, we still have the Confederate battle flag as part of our state flag, and our state university sports teams are the Rebels.  But traveling recently in north Georgia and western North Carolina I was surprised to see more Confederate battle flags flying in yards than you see in this state.  And this part of Mississippi was briefly in the Republic of West Florida after a rebellion by some its citizens.  Those rebels also had a flag:  the Bonnie Blue Flag, or the Lone Star Flag.  It's also still a part of a state flag.  Guess which one.
