New G2
« on: February 13, 2004, 01:24:34 PM »
Got one today. Already have a bit of a problem. I have tw :?  :?  :? o factory barrels and also a Contender. Both barrels work on the Contender, but only one works on the G2. By work I mean the hammer won't cock with one barrel. I believe the lugs are the problem. Otherwise its pretty slick. Like a little Encore.

Swapped

the lugs of both barrels. The one that worked before still works, and the one that did not work before still does not work. Even though I swapped the lugs. Also have a custom barrel that works just fine on the G2. Don't know what the problem might be if not the lugs. Any suggestions? Sent a note off to TC. I am sure they will want me to send everything to them.

moe, it just hit me! it's possibly your ammo! the encore, and G2 will not cock if your headspace is too long. you may need to slightly bump the shoulder back on your reloads. that is if they are reloads. i've had it happen in my encore. thats when i decided to get a headspace indicator to measure how much case was protruding form a removed barrel. check it out, and if thats not it i'm clueless.

barrel to frame gap could be different between the old contender and G2. a old model may misfire, but the G2/encore will not cock to start with if the case is too long from head to shoulder. another possible cause could be pulling the shoulder back out a couple thousandths when dragging the expander back thru. i did that too.  gotta lube them necks inside. :D

I had this same problem and and we talked about it on another trend http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=18883&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
Hope this brings you to it
The big thing is to listen for the locking lugs to engage if they don't you will not be able to pull the hammer back.
I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

BB, that is the problem. I can not pull the hammer back.

Kyode, I have not even tried any ammo yet. This is just closing the barrel and not being able to cock the hammer like BB said.

I thought swapping the lugs would help, so it has me a little bewildered( a common situation for me).

oh well   i guess we can be bewildered together. :)
but, if it does ever happen with ammo, thats what my encore did, and bumping the shoulder solved it.

Use a magic marker to see if the lugs are engaging past the half round
notch. The lugs are supposed to engage about a 32nd past this notch and this will then release the thinga magig that allows the hammer to engage
if they are not going back far enough it is easy enough to very carefull stone some off of the top to allow for full engagement. You can use a magic lmarker to coat the top of the lugs and then close it very briskly and check the scratch marks to indicate depth of engagement.  If this don't work--back to TC.

Pretty sure the lugs are the problem. Stoned, filed, gouged, scraped, you name it. Will not work with that barrel on the G2. Did the marker test and the lugs are not engaging even close to the half round notch. Don't know why. I'll just use that barrel on the "old" Contender, and wait to see what TC says.
