I disagree with the idea that civilian firearms should be limited to obsolete military firearm designs. For example, bolt actions instead of semi autos. The state of the art and the state of practice in civilian arms should not be limited like that. For example, semi autos have been standard for longer than bolt actions were standard. In other words, semi autos are normal, mainstream designs.

Likewise with the notion that civilian arms need to be made with wood. Why? Polymers offer more design flexibility, lower cost, and have improved stability over a wide range of temperature and humidity.

Ergonomic improvements should not be limited to military weapons. If a more pronounced pistol style grip results in better performance from the shooter, it should be standard, and it has become so except for nostalgia buffs.

I doubt the blow back will amount to anything more than a reinstatement of the "assault weapons ban". That will be "feel good legislation" which allows the slime balls to claim "we did something" without actually doing anything.
I bought a Colt AR-15 back in the 80's and found it to be remarkably accurate but ill balanced, awkward and ugly and I didn't keep it long nor did I ever hanker for another. Over the years I've also tried out an SKS and an AK-47 and could not find a redeaming virtue to either of them so they didn't last long either. Spray and pray is just not what I'm about. I prefer a firearm with graceful lines, smooth handling, quality of construction and something which instills some pride of ownership. I do most of my hunting with traditional muzzleloaders, many of which I've built myself, but when I do use modern firearms they are single shots, doubles, bolt actions and revolvers. I get a bit annoyed when some black rifle is called a "modern sporting rifle" because we all know damn well it is a semi-auto version of an assault rifle and calling it something else reminds me  that "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet and a turd by any other name would still be a turd.
With all that said I still stand by the right of any American to own one if they so desire. It is the height of hypocrisy that the very same people who for years have tried to claim that the second amendment only protects the militia then speak out of their other face to ban the very weapons most suited for militia use on the grounds that they aren't needed for hunting. The second amendment is intended to secure for the people the means to defend themselves against any threat to liberty and has nothing to do with hunting.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

some see the AR as a thing of beauty  and don't like muzzle loaders

some think  i an odd because   i like stainles and neoprene grips  on my single action revolver

we  all need to just support each other

they were after the 50bmg for awhile but they couldn't get some one to flip out with one

reasonable gun laws  will AWAYS MEAN  one more law

One of the things about an assault weapons ban now versus in the 1990s is that black plastic stocked semi autos have become a lot more popular since then, so there are likely to be a lot more models on the banned list.

Or a much broader defintion of what would qualify.

;)  We could go with camo or as last resort go pink.   The rainbow crowd should support that.

Similar to what I found out up here.
An aftermarket 10 round Mag that fits a Rem 760 will also fit a Rem 742.

The same Mag is legal to own and use on the 760 but a No No with the 742.   Arrgh and the make laws. !!

We got into this mess when people found out they could vote to get free money. The liberals are working hard to help us to trade our freedoms for dollars.
The SS check I now get is not an entitlement. After all I paid into that system since I was 16. How is that different than a 401 K?
The folks that want free money are fast growing larger than those of us that worked to support this whole mess. I don't believe income tax is even really legal. I mean that's what the Boston tea party was about was it not.
Consider the plot for the government to own America. It's called " reverse mortgage"
The plot thickens. Not only do they want our guns, they want our jobs and our property.  :o

Obama is following the same plan that ancient Egypt used to make surfs of the people.

Just a few thoughts. Regards,

Funny how my SS insurance is an entitlement, my soon to come and be need medicare INSURANCE is an entitlement.  When we were young remember how we told about "compound interest" and how a few bucks put away would triple or so?  Now they tell us how we paid "only" X amount into these things, but will take out more.  What did they do with my money?  Actually, I know, they put it into the general fund, spent it, and left IOU's.

As for the original question:  Yes, it is time to buy a SS just because they are a pleasure to use, if you haven't ever tried.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

I personally don't see the need to have more than 3 rounds for hunting . After shooting 3 rounds, if the animal isn't dead it deserves a second change. I'm personally tired of the spray and prey hunters. When my dad turned 70, he started hunting with a Ruger no. 1 in 30-06. The one round never prevented him from killing what he shot at.

It is entirely dependent on what you are hunting.  In any case, the number of rounds a magazine holds is and should be a matter of choice and should not be subject to the whims of a stinking liberal.

In Cowboy Action matches, I can shoot eight (8) rounds in 11.94 seconds with my Stoeger .12 gauge SxS Coach Gun and I am not even considered to be fast.....I guess it all depends on your perception of firepower!

Well with all the attacks on simi auto anything would it be a good time to buy a good single shot rifle , maybe a revolver , and a dbl. bbl. shotgun for future hunting ?

I recently added a CVA Scout (rifle) to my locker ...and just take a look at this beauty available from CZ-Brno.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

According to their website, that top one is about $1,500+ MSRP...not too bad, considering the quality..  I suppose there may be an "on the street" price, but not sure.  Here's an interesting article concerning it.

Or take a look at CZ's website.   http://www.cz-usa.com/   I have only one CZ,  (a 452), but it is a work of art!

I could get by with a single shot rifle or shotgun for hunting. I am there more for the experience than for the bag and I seldom hit with a second shot what I already missed with the first.
I would want a repeater for home defense or self defense because predators often travel in packs.
I would really miss a repeating, in my case a semi-auto, .22 rimfire because they are so much fun for game playing, also for shooting running small game. It seems that the first sight I usually get of the bunny is when he bolts and a quick follow up shot is often helpful. I know I could use a shotgun but it doesn't seem too sporting and does a lot of damage to dinner.
