7x57 Contender carbine?
« on: February 13, 2004, 03:44:16 PM »
Saw an interesting Contender Carbine barrel in a gun store today.  It was chambered for the 7x57 Mauser and was manufactured in Preston, ID. Was not able to see the complete name of the maker due to the scope. Does anyone know of the manufacturer? Are they of any quality? Does anyone have any opinions on the ability of the Contender frame to handle this chambering?
Thank you..mt

Whoa! The 7x57 is in the 45,000cup range. It will most likely take your Contender apart at the seams with factory loads. It is nothing more, or less,  than a 7mm08 with a .200" longer body. If you download it to safe limits(pressure), why not get a 7x30 and save yourself some headaches. Forget this barrel and get a 7x30 if you simply can't live without a 7mm.
