NY Hunter,
Got a little snow in Syracuse this year, eh?
I have owned a Belgian FN-FAL Competition .308 for 23 years. Several friends also bought FN-FAL rifles when I purchased mine. We all still own them. They are accurate, have very good reliability, handle well, and are very field serviceable. I have put at least 5000 rounds through my rifle, and it is still a 1 MOA rifle. The point of impact never changes due to weather or temperature. One of my shooting pals purchased the shorter Paratroop model, and it was about a 2 MOA rifle, but its shorter length made it a little handier in the field. The length of the full sized FN-FAL rifle is its only detraction in my opinion, as it is a long firearm and therefore difficult to carry in the heavy brush. I tried the FN-FAL for a few days in the area around Barnes Corners in upstate NY during the 1982 deer season. Not a hunting rifle. Can't blame a guy for trying tho. I've owned about every modern .30 cal. semi-auto military rifle made (H&K series, M1A, Garand, Galil, FN49, etc.), and the FN is the only one I still own, being my pick of the .308 battle rifles available. I do not have any experience with the AR-10, but I have held them, and I would bet the rifle is not as durable as the FN-FAL. My two cents. Enjoy the shopping and shooting.
