Need a source for magazines
« on: December 25, 2012, 09:48:07 AM »
Looking for a couple dozen or more.  Don't need anything real special as I have a number of McCormicks that I use for serious shooting.  Just wanting some 7 or 8 rounders that are serviceable for plinking to maybe save some wear and tear on the ones I'm willing to bet my life on.  Gonna order a dozen more McCormicks tonight or in the morning from Brownells (unless someone here has a better source) just because I can.

Would also like opinions on the 15 round ProMags.  Never been a fan of ProMag or long magazines, but with things as they are today I just thought some 15s might be novel to own.

Nothing wrong with McCormick's mags but you might look into Tripp mags - Neither I nor any of my 1911 associates have ever had a problem with Tripp Mags.  http://www.trippresearch.com/store/store_1911.html

With the latest insanity that is upon us, you'll pay a premium for waiting till this late date to shop for magazines. Hopefully you have enough magazines for all your guns that you're not in panic mode.
Old GI mags are usually cheap, and work ok. Some require some cleanup and spring or follower changes. Megar magazines are usually inexpensive and work as well as most. At this time if I needed mags, I'd even try Pro Mags------gasp! McCormics are close to $30 for the Power Mags. The Tripps, Wilsons, and Metalforms, are in the $40-$50 range. That's IF they haven't jacked the price up on them already. Baddddd time to buy magazines.
Good Luck,

I'm far from being short on mags.  Just thought I'd get a few more.  Around the beginning of the last fiasco I bought 100 GIs from the 40s that were loaded and wrapped in grease paper.  Still got about 1/4th of them (less the ammo) just figured I'd pick up some more expendables but I ain't paying stupid for them.  The 15 round ProMags are $14.95 ea. and he has 6 but they aren't worth that if they don't function.  The McCormicks are still $73.99 for 3 and there's no reason for them to go up.  That's not far from what they've sold for for a few years now.

I bought a good number of GI mags some years ago. They are still in cosmoline and paper wrapped. Unless total insanity kicks in, can't imagine prices for 1911 mags getting too much our of hand. It's mainly the mags that hold more than 10 rds that are selling for ridiculous prices. Mainly Glock and AR/AK mags. Let's just say I have a few of those as well. Good luck.

for all the time I competed with a .45 acp single stack I used nothing but Metalform magazines. They were inexpensive and totally reliable.

it may be obvious but no one has mentioned it. What about Brownells or Sinclair?

Oops, just checked each of them, backorder for every AR15 mag. And now , brain fart. This was about 1911 mags. I hate brain farts.

Ok, I just came back from Brownells. They have 1911 .45acp mags available. The cheapest is $20

Old Syko, I never had any 15rd. magazines. I have used 10 and 11 rd extended mags (brand name unremembered) with great success. Sorry I cannot remember the brand.

I picked up the 6 15 round ProMags but I think I'm going to leave them wrapped up just the way they came for now.  I'm one of the few who prefers a shoulder rig and that extra length just wouldn't get it.  Maybe my son or grandaughter will use them some day or I'll try them out.  I've decided to go ahead and just get more 8 round CMC Power mags.  I know they work well and last a long time and they ain't gonna get no cheaper.   ::)   Gun show this weekend so I'll try to get them there.  Otherwise I'll order tomorrow night.  After all, I'm just trying to increase my comfort zone.  Too many times people forget that magazines are actually expendables.   ;)

I ordered some Glock magazines from  Centerfire Systems a few days ago. Just received shipping notification yesterday. I was pleased with the price, (19.95) and delivery. They are not price gouging, and they are only taking orders that they can actually deliver. Certainly didn't need more mags, but they may be nice to have some later date as all my social pistols are Glocks.

Some may cringe but the Triple Ks I used this past summer were as good as my McCormicks but 7 rounds. Two mags + 500 rounds each = 100% reliability.

YMMV

I also have a ProMag AR mag that works flawlessly (500 rds)...and I've seen some that were crapola...and I've seen some LaBelle Ind. mags that were crap too.

I appreciate this and will continue to follow up but as of right now the site states this store is currently closed until they can catch up on orders.  2 or 3 ten packs would be handy right now.

Although I appreciate the info, I can't in good conscience deal with CTD due to their questionable business practices.  I have to let personal experience take precedence and chose to deal with more reputable businesses.

I'm not trying to start anything, but, since I deal with CTD regularly, what exactly are you talking about with "questionable business practices"?  PM if you don't feel comfortable posting it.

re: CTD , I ordered M193 ammo with a price of $7.12 for a box of 20. I just received the notice that the M193 was in for a price of $34.89 for a box of 20. I replied and called them everything I could thing of without being vulgar. A price increase of over 375%. I refuse.

On a pleasant note, I received a shipment from Midway. I ordered 7 Metalform magazines and enough mag pads of another brand to go with them. I thought I would have to drill the mag base plates for the pads but happily I found the magazines were already drilled for mag pads. Hoo yah!

SharonAnne let me guess: you ordered one catalog number and they were out but they had a different catalog number(same item) at three times the price. Bait and switch.

Bummer about the price jumps at CTD, but perfectly legal...everyone I deal with is doing it.  CTD magazine says in the first few pages that their prices can be adjusted to accomodate the market.

Even the local gun stores are doing it...they're charging $21 for 50 rounds of Tulammo 9 mm ball.  That's the law of supply & demand.

Reliquary, my reference goes back to the fiasco of 4 years ago and I will not go into detail.  I will say they were one of the first to hike prices on product they already had which merely added to the fervor of the times.  I don't deal with folks who make my life worse for whatever reason.  There were those who refused to stoop to such levels and those are the ones I continue to support.  I would suggest others research the companies and individuals they choose to support and spend accordingly.  If others did this we wouldn't be in our present situation with companies and corporations having so much control of our lives.

the term i was trying to think of for CTD was PROFITEERING!  I know there is the supply and demand, but there is no justification for a 375% price increase in 3 months

With many businesses it goes far beyond profiteering and greed and enters the realm of authoratative control.  For someone to control their own business is commendable but to do so at the cost of the needs of others is reprehensible.  It is better to participate rather than to manipulate.

Dang, I was a day late and a dollar short. A guy just sold three ProMag 1911 8 round mags at $35 for all three on a local gun page on FaceBook. Sure would of liked to had them.
