Yesterday I sent a barrel to Gary Reeder to rechamber to .30 GNR.

Can anyone share any reloading tips or experiences with this caliber?

My buddy had one re-chambered several years ago. Loading info was not very good. Was told to use 300 Savage for guidelines. It groups(a carbine barrel from a orig. 30-30) better fireforming factory loads than what we've been able to come up with. Right now it shoots 1 1/2+ at 100 yds fireforming and 2" with handloads. This summer I'm bringing it to my house and reload and shoot at my target range untill I find a MOA load. It is an wicked looking round with that short neck.

I have a custom 20" contender carbine barrel in 7 GNR that is the most accurate barrel I own.  Reloading for the 7 GNR is simple. Shoot factory 7-30 waters and out comes a 7 GNR case. The dies I got from Gary are Redding and are a joy to reload with. Just adjust a hair above shell holder and full length resize with no fussing around with neck sizing like most cartridges. Neck tension seems perfect so just seat with desired OAL. Piece of cake. With the 30 GNR not sure if you can just fire factory 30-30. Talk with Gary. You might have to use the alternative method. Create false shoulder on virgin brass and fireform. His rechambers are first rate. Another barrel I had rechambered, Gary buffed out old caliber, custom engraved new, and reblued. No cheap over stamp.
