Ruger 1911
« on: December 26, 2012, 03:59:51 PM »
Today, the first day ever since the Ruger was announced, I saw one on a dealer's shelf.  $799, which I believe is full suggested retail.  When, oh when, will that gun be a common item in stores and gun shows at a reasonable price?  What is it about the Ruger that keeps them sold out?  Are they so much better than other plain 1911's?  Is it the Ruger name?

It is going to be awhile in this place, with the way I read prices now-a-days.
I will admit to not being much of a fan of the Ruger.

I would keep looking, ours are retailed for $669.99.  Have sold all we can get, reports are GLOWING from the owners, accuracy has been reported back to us as better than Kimber from the three people that own both makes.  Demand is such, we have stopped out of state sales, FTF only in the store.  DP

Sharon, be nice.  I'd love to have one over any other production 1911, but I'd not pay that much.  You are the 1911 expert.  If you don't like the Ruger, that's okay.  I'm certain your accomplishments with a 1911 are more than I'll ever match. I don't shoot competitiion;don't shoot better than anyone else I know, I simply like that particular weapon.  Once at a public range, a man arrived who had just come from a dealer and he had a brand new one.  I was all over him with compliments about his choice, even though he'd paid the full retail.  He asked me if I'd like to shoot it.  I shot it even before he did.  The first shot ever out of that particular gun.  I made the metal man ring at 100 yards with that first shot.  Then I watched him shoot up  all the ammo he had.  No malfunctions whatsoever out of that brand new gun.  That, Sharon, is where my "glowing reviews" came from.  I read through your subtle sarcasm.  Don't like it.

Mike in V. There was no sarcasm intended, subtle or otherwise. I really wanted you to tell us about the Ruger 1911. Being disabled I seldom get out of the house, usually my monthly visits to my pain doctor. Mostly I get my thrills vicariously.

Ask around, I seldom use subtle sarcasm. Usually my sarcasm is quite evident. I have never used sarcasm towards you. You cannot have 'read through your subtle sarcasm' because there was none. I asked where you came by your 'glowing report' and now I know. Perhaps you have not noticed that I am very curious.

When someone asks a question that I know something about I speak (write) up. When someone expresses an opinion I want to know what that opinion is based on. Actual experience I value. Direct observation I value. Gossip I value not at all.  You several times expressed opinions on the Ruger 1911 and I REALLY wanted to know why you thought so.

I am hoping to get out to a couple of gun shops in the next month or so. I hope to be able to check out the Ruger and Remington 1911s. They sound like great guns!
