The Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers

I was watching The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers. I can't remember the names. But the King decides to arm all able bodied men including old and "lads" to defend the castle.

Something like our Revolutionary War.

Am I the only one who caught this?

I think it was Aragorn and Gandalf talking and Aragorn said that these were not warriors, they were just farmers. Yes, it does sound a lot like the Revolutionary War. I had not thought of it before. I guess it also could be the Civil War also.
If you can earn it, why did He have to die?
