Updated today at 6:30 AM       The cost of milk could go up significantly in the new year.
A stalled farm bill in the U.S. House of Representatives means a gallon of milk could possibly go from the current average of $3.65 to $7.
Without last minute action, the government would have to follow legislation dating back to the Truman presidency, forcing the government to buy milk at wildly inflated prices, causing a shortage.
The Senate passed a farm bill in July

B as in Bee. S as in Ess!

The farm bill is one of the biggest ripoffs of the American taxpayer, and it needs to go away. Now.

Enterprising dairy farmers will find a way to fill any supply gaps, and the long-term outcome will be a healthier dairy industry.

I've been paying well over $ 7.00 per 4 liters of milk up here for several years.

That's because of all that anti-freeze they give the cows to keep the milk in a liquid state.
I think minnesota is like that, a frozen wasteland. :o

In Minnesota it's because of the Farm Bill. In Canada it's because musk oxen don't give as much milk as cows. ;)

That is because the little guys are only a half the size of a real milk cow.

Better brace yourselves. The price of milk is going to affect WHOLE LOT of other things. Most people have not got the foggiest notion of where milk ends up in the food supply! Almost every type of prepared food contains milk products in one form or another. Have hotdog....yer getting a milk product, same with bologna, it's in your old favorite Spagettios......the list of things that are made with milk is endless......and the price is going to go up on all of it.

I say good riddance. Dairy is the original junk food and our collective health will be better off without it. Heart clogging milk poisoned with growth hormones that make kids enter puberty at age seven, diabetes inducing ice cream and yogurt, fatty salty cheese laced with spoilage retarding antibiotics, sickening desserts, breakfast glop, and snacks.

Dairy has too long enjoyed an undeserved prestigious status as a wholesome product, and it's time for all that to change.

Cow's milk is a perfect food............... for calves. You're right of course, most would be better off without it.

Unfortunately though, I think I might die right on the spot if I couldn't get hold of a tall cold glass of the stuff when there's a pile of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on the table.

Most people have not got the foggiest notion of what else ends up in hot dogs, bologna or Spaghettios either. If they did, they might conclude that milk content (or the price of it) is the least of their worries.

Just heard on the news the farm bill passed. Now if maybe they can do something about that cliff we're falling over.

God led the Israelites to a land flowing with milk and honey, so milk must be a good thing.  I know that honey is good.

So the least Productive congress in the modern era get a raise.
I hope all people irregardless of party remembers in 2014 and 2016 and votes appropriately.

I'm of the thought vote out all incumbants regardless of party affiliation and start anew with less entrenched bought and paid for politicians.
