Police said as many as 60 people celebrated Christmas night by looting a local convenience store. LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Police said as many as 60 people celebrated Christmas night by looting a local convenience store. The thefts happened early Wednesday morning at the Circle K at 7800 St. Andrews Church Road.
The store was one of the few spots open Christmas night, and according to a police report, just after 1 a.m., "a large group of intoxicated people began looting the store."
According to the arrest report, as the responding officer arrived, 40-60 people were inside the store stealing items and running.
But one man remained standing out front drinking a Mike's Hard Lemonade alcoholic beverage that the clerk said he just stole.
That man was identified as 19-year-old Deon Cardwell. He was arrested and accused of shoplifting, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and underage drinking.
According to the arrest report, when the officer approached Cardwell, he stated, "I stole this stuff, so what?" and then threw a Red Bull toward the officer and tried to run.
In addition to a six-pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade and the Red Bull Cardwell threw at the officer, police said he took one AirHeads candy and a pack of gummy bears.
Police said Cardwell told them he was drinking at an underage party at a bar across the street before the looting.
The Circle K manager said he couldn't comment about what happened, but patrons were upset to hear the holiday brought looting.
