« on: December 27, 2012, 09:42:11 AM »
Just bought a .303 Britsh, you guys who shoot em, what factory load do u use?
I am an endless source of useless information.  I've learned more and more about less and less and now I know everything there is about nothing at all.
I love my wife and 2 daughters

I've always used Remington 180 gr RNSP Core-lokts in mine for hunting whitetails, works good.

One of my hunting partners uses the same ammo spruce recommends and has never had a problem. Last year he killed his moose with one shot using the 180gr RN Core-lokts.
I've used them in 30-40 Krag (despite .004 in bullet diameter difference they are pretty much the same round) and have no complaints.
.303 Brit is a very underrated cartridge.

+1

Still my favorite. I've yet to find a factory load or reload(with the right bullets) that hasn't shot well in mine, and that's with a "shot out" bore. It seems in my experience 150gr spitzer points are the best for target loads, and 180 RNs are the best for hunting

My son has taken over custody of my Epps sporterized No.4 Mk 1 Enfield, but I used it quite a bit pig hunting when I first got it.  It was, in point of fact, one of my favorite rifles.  I handload, so the overwhelming majority of the factory ammo that has been shot out of this rifle has been the Remington FMJ load at paper targets as a means of obtaining brass for handloading.  I used that rifle quite a lot in the '90s when pig hunting, and hunting elk in timber, etc.  There were a few times when I shot pigs with Remington's 180 grain factory hunting load, and I didn't have any complaints, but the shots weren't very far -50 to 75 yards or so.  Most of the animals I killed with that rifle fell to handloaded ammo, usually with Woodleigh bullets from Austrailia, when I could get them.  My son still uses some of that supply of ammo when he goes deer hunting with me..  I agree that the .303 is very under-rated by shooters today.  So to is the No.4 Enfield rifle!

the best factory load, imo, in the 150 gn range is the Sellier and Bellot, non-corrosively primed and reloadable.  Then possibly the PRVI for a heavier 174-180 gn slug.  US ammo in 303 is about as loaded down as is US 8mm ammo.  Best US ammo is Hornaday.
