Aggravated with used .17 Sportster......
« on: December 28, 2012, 03:57:55 PM »
Very aggravated with this gun right now. I almost sold it off but it's almost not worth it $. I have A LOT of ff's, or light strikes; whatever. It wastes a lot of ammo because of this. When it does fire it is accurate. But if it's not going to be reliable then who cares. Hell that's why I picked it up; single shot and made of steel....it's supposed to be reliable.

Anyone on here have a clue what the issue could be? Bad firing pin??

Thanks

It could be you're not pulling the trigger all the way to the rear, if you're releasing it at the break it can result in light strikes, it allows the transfer bar to drop out of position and doesn't allow the hammer strike to transfer full impact to the firing pin.  It could also be a bad transfer bar/and or timing adjustment which isn't uncommon on Sportsters,  best advice if you can't get it to work right is call H&R and make arrangement to have it repaired. Ask for them to cover return shipping when you call.

You most likely have a glitch with the Striker/Lifter, commonly called the transfer bar. Aggravating, yes, fixable, yes. Talk to H&R and do as Quick says; when it is fixed you will probably love it.
Think of this as a temporary setback. Good for you for not just 'selling it/trading it off' and kicking that can into someone else's lap.
