7mm TCU
« on: December 29, 2012, 10:26:03 AM »
I aquired a new barrel in 7mm TCU for my Contender and am just getting my feet wet loading and fireforming 223 brass for it. Does anyone else shoot it and if so, what are your opinions of the cartridge?

What barrel length do you have?
The 7TCU can be a very accurate round and a great deer round if loaded properly. I have one that shoots cast and jacketed bullets with very good accuracy.
If you want a good amount of information on the 7MM TCU do a search for "The Frugal Outdoorsman" and a lot of loading information and hunting experience can be found there.

Sure, I fire tons of them through both a Contender and a Tikka bolt gun I built up. Cast bullets only, either gaschecked or paper patched depending on the application. Wonderfully accurate, versatile cartridge with enough hit to use for highpower 500M silhouette shooting if the wind isn't blowing too hard.

I've got a Super 14 and love it with cast bullets. I don't shoot gas checks and am still impressed with velocity and accuracy.

I had one for a time, never shot cast bullets in it...

I've owned a LOT of handguns over the years, including numerous contender bbls, but the TCU i had was the most accurate handgun i've ever fired.  I had it scoped and it shot under 1/2" groups...  It was amazing!
