Lloyd:
What are you finding your 396 likes the best as far as loads.  I have almost given up on mine, when I first shot it, it shot itself loose after about 50 rounds of black hills ammo.  I returned it to S&W, they fit a new barrel and cylinder but it is not at all accurate.  Mine will shoot 2 out of five that the holes will touch but the other 3 could be 8" apart.  At least it is life time warranty so maybe this time they will get it right.

mine isnt that bad but its not a tack driver either best loads so far are the 240 rcbs swcgc and the square lube grove 421429 and the 225 lyman swcgc about any of them with either 7 grains of unique or 6.5 grains of 231 will shoot into 2 to 2 1/2 I replaced the grips with pachs. and had an action job done on it. It does seem to prefer bullets sized to .429 I still havent tried any jacketed bullets in it.

Lloyd, try jacketed bullets in that gun.  My old Charters have always been just ok shooters until I fed them jacket bullets.  Wow, what a difference.  44 Man

charter arms

I had a charter arms bulldog about 25 years ago that was superbly accurate with 200 gr speer JHP and 13 gr of 2400.  It was a hot load in that little gun but it hit exactly at the point of aim.  I read the review in gunblast about the new Charter 2000 bulldog, they raved about the accuracy.  I went to the gunshop to buy a bulldog, they didn't have any in stocK but they had this new hi-tech scandium titanium wondergun, so I bought it instead.  Wish I would have ordered a Bulldog instead of the dog I went home with.

There's nothing like a good .22, and a couple of those Federal bulk packs from Wally World. It's my favorite kind of shooting. It always takes me back to when I was a kid - shooting in the sugar cane fields with my brother. Those will always be some of my happiest memories.
