too much flare on S&W 460 cases
« on: December 31, 2012, 11:13:58 AM »
I got about of 100 cases of S&W 460 cases that have way too much flare on them.  So much that they do hang up in the seating die when trying to full crimp, they don't start in the resizing die, or feed into the cylinder ports of the revolver.
Any ideas on how to re-sise these back to usable condition?  Hate to waste them even though I got them for free.
Thanks..

Have you tried running them into the crimp die without the bullet to a point the bell is reduced enough to re-enter the sizing die.  The only other suggestion I might have would be to trim a few thousands off until the excess bell is removed.

You probably ought to resize them.  If you roll the mouth of the case on a hard surface I think it's likely you can reduct the flare enough for the case to enter the sizing die.
