You ever get online looking for one thing that costs like $50 and end up spending $400 on crap?  Yeah that happened again!

To new handloaders:  This hobby will not save you money.  Ever!  It is a hobby.  Not an economic device.... well, unless your plan is to spend more money.  Then it works wonders!

Money-wise it's like any other entertainment, set a budget and stick to it...  I want some gun stuff, I set aside a hundred or so for Midway or other orders and I don't go over it.  Otherwise I would have spent a fortune tricking out my M1911a1 by now...

Midway USA is like the Walmart of reloading. You walk (log) in for a box of Advil (bullets) and you come out with $200 worth of stuff you didn't even know you needed.

The saving grace is that I am in Columbia every several weeks and so there is no shipping costs. The down side is they dont have on site storage of the hazmat materials so I cant buy powder direct.

LOL.. YUP welcome to reality. ;)

I just hate when I place a order and a day later remember something else I really NEEDED...  ::)

In the past two months they have gotten a very large pecentage of my ''play'' dollars...  ;)

I have a wish list started there now and do find this helps with impulse buys. I go and add to wish list and leave, go back a week later add remove and leave  when I feel I need it or have the extra $$ I trim again and send it. I think I save a few dollars this way.

I've asked our local shop to ban me from entry but they won't do it.  It's my addiction.

Over the years, I have fed a bunch of bucks to the various dealers, including Midsouth, Midway and Natchez..just to mention some.
I have recently gotten some relief for these "growing pains'..  My grandson is a gunsmith for a major guns, ammo and accesssories corp....and he can get most of the stuff at a deep discount for me..even having some drop-shipped from distant branches.
I still buy some from the above named firms though..because that discount price opportunity only takes place a couple times per year.

In 1968 I ordered my first reloading equipment from Gander Mountain.  Spent weeks looking at the ads in the catalog, penciled in the order numbers, mailed it in with a C.O.D. request and had cash ready when it arrived.

Now days you find it on line, view for a minute or two, punch a few buttons, add a plastic card number and it will arrive in a few days.  The vendors are in hog heaven.

I like the newer system but I kinda miss looking and wishing in those old catalogs.

That isant nearly as bad as working in a gun shop. I would just sign my paycheck, and write another out of my personal check book when I lived in hawaii.

Gun Runner I have to agree with you about working in a gun shop. I worked part time in one once from about August until the end of the year. Even with the employee discount it cost me to work there.

I do not save money reloading, I just bring more ammo to the range...

Some people are shocked when I show up with a 5 gallon pail nearly full of ammo...

I got out of the Army in 1969. That winter a skinny Gander Mountain catalog showed up in the mail with darn good prices on reloading equipment. I ordered a bunch of it and still have every single item which I have used a lot. Those were the days.

The only thing I don't like about Midway is their shipping fees . I wanted to buy a RCBS bullet puller from them and the shipping cost was almost as much as the bullet puller . Ended up buying one locally for less but had to wait almost 4 months as the shop was getting the RCBS stuff sent to them real slow !

Glad to see that I am in good company here.. Waiting for a shipment of reloading supplies from another source, a significant investment.  "Upgrading" my choice of rifles for a planned Elk hunt this fall and need new dies, brass, bullets,etc...
My wife thinks that I can be a supplier for the local gunshop and tackle shops.. :)
I also do my share of stimulating the economic survival of the local shop where we have a Friday morning coffee hour to discuss the terrible situation here in NY.

Do any of you guys remember the good ole days when Midway had free shipping with a minimum order ( I think ) of $40.00?

Those were the days they got more of my money!  Last time I tried to order before the panic they put a limit on items so I went elsewhere.

I shop them all, and just look for the best price with shipping. One thing with Midway that ship fast ( or they did before the rush). Purchased 2000 .223 bullets and 2500 range brass the other day and felt bad about spending $360 on something I was not completely out of.

But today I got a email from the local gun shop where they had Federal .223 FMJ "on sale" for $17.99 a box of 20.
So with the Tula primers I picked up last year ($7.9k) and the Varget ($138) I got on sale I am looking at about $5 a box.

Which is about $1 a box more than what I load FiveSeven for.

No I don't feel bad for long spending money on reloading.

Midway and hi cost of shipping is a OLD argument... I simply do not see it and I buy from them allot I also do alot of business requiring me to ship things UPS and USPS. I MUCH prefer USPS.
The service provided from Midway is STELLAR! FAST and EFFICIENT, IMHO, its worth EVERY PENNY PAID!!!I also buy from Midsouth, Natchez, Graff and Sons and Cabela's. None offer email updates and none have contacted me afterwards as Midway has.  All are good, but Midway out shines them all with its service before, during and after the sale... Midway has earned my loyalty, I will look elsewhere when they are out of stock, but I look at Midway first the majority of the time.

But then again, I al also the kind of guy to drive miles and miles out of my way, on back roads, to avoid sitting in senseless stop and go  traffic. :)  ::)

Just my 2 cents,
 CW

they are always out of stock on stuff I need & shipping is expensive, didnt like the fact they stopped shipping to Ny,  its not on them its on us.  They should have stood up for our rights. Mike
