Mandatory Gun Insurance idea.

Should People Be Forced to Buy Liability Insurance for their Guns?by Megan McArdle Dec 28, 2012 9:35 AM EST

The latest gun-control idea is forcing owners to buy liability insurance. That may help a few victims, but it won't stop crime, writes Megan McArdle.Novel gun control ideas continue to percolate through the commentariat.  The latest idea is requiring liability insurance for gun owners, which seems to have first been suggested by John Wasik blogging at Forbes.  Reihan Salam, one of my favorite thinkers, says it's an idea seriously worth considering.  I too have been mulling this since it started making the rounds, mostly because I've been spending a fair amount of time thinking about insurance for the book I'm writing.  In the end, I think it might be a fine idea to help a small number of people, but it wouldn't do what proponents are imagining in terms of controlling criminal behavior.  Mostly, it would be a way to compensate some victims of gun accidents. Below, I elaborate the reasons why I think this is the case.............

Mandatory insurance is a disaster for gun rights, a violation of the RTKBA and an attack.

Glad you mentioned this disastrous idea.

There is no appeasing the Marxist anti-gun people.  They want us disarmed and killed.  It's that simple.

Here in California we supposedly  have mandatory automobile drivers licenses and car insurance, but the Mexican political lobby thinks it's racist for brown people to comply with the same laws as whites and they're busy carving out exceptions out of fairness to illegal aliens.

Make no mistake,  the "gun insurance" scam is an attack on 2nd amendment rights and on white people as well.  You think black and Mexican gang bangers will be required to have insurance?   Don't ever forget,  the Obama administration was illegally shipping thousands of illegal guns to Mexican drug cartels.  The Obama administration wants to arm Mexican criminals and to disarm white Americans.

Insurance would be along the same line as taxing weapons, ammo and such. Another was to price a gun out of reach of most people..

Mine are insured as Sports equipment on a rider to my Renters insurance.
But I agree this is a way to back door the registration of all guns.  Police want to see your registration and proof of insurance on your rifle pistol or shotgun before you can go shooting or get a hunting license.
We also have a president that Said " we will end all private insurance companies in the next 10 years"  when he said this we thought he was talking about medical insurance policies when he said it he was talking about Obama care and a single payer system.
Now I wonder if he did not mean that all insurance companies would be closed and all insurance would be funded through the government.  The governemnt then being able to tell you what you can and can not insure or how much it will cost you.
Guns $1,000 each a year, gas cars 4,000 a year, 4X4 $8,000 a year, and so on to price you out of owning things you want that the do gooders do not want you to own.
Party membership gets you a 50% deduction.  Remember you need to have your Obama road side assistance sticker on your car (sorry Hybrid smart car) for help.

Mandatory car insurance like we have here in Mo is required to operate a car on the public highway, in case YOU cause an accident, it is for liability. You can own all the cars you want and operate them on private property. They are basically saying they want insurance against someone STEALING or otherwise gaining access to your firearms and using them to commit an atrocity. If I accidentally shoot someone, you bet your butt I will be sued. However, if you steal my car and then run over someone, my insurance is worthless for that purpose. It should be the same for firearms if at all, any insurance would have to relate to MY actions, not others, and that is NOT what they are proposing. There are no cars mentioned in the constitution, as they are fond of referring too.
