Ruger No. 3, with no barrel band?
« on: January 02, 2013, 10:48:28 AM »

Dear Guys,

Does anyone know if Ruger ever sold, as a factory item, the No. 3 single shot without a front barrel band?  The only ones I've ever seen had a band on them, but my friend told me he has seen one without a front barrel band, and that the forestock has no cut-in section for a band.

Thanks for all info,
Mannyrock

If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Yes, but the issue is, are they factory installed stocks, or someone's aftermarket custom work?

That I don't know but could a #1 forearm be used to replacve the one with a band ? if so would the band not have left a mark ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

There are more boogered up #3s than not.  It should have a band.

Sure did! ... I got one... from the dealer. Smooth fore stock, no barrel band... in 22 Hornet. Made in 1978.

Then someone put it on there.  It didn't come that way.

From where? the factory? I think not.

Dealer yes, factory? again, I think not.

There was a time when #3's were bought and the big "custom"  touch was to make them look like #1's. Forends and pistol grip stocks, right down to heating up and bending the finger lever to contour the grip. Yes, if you have one without a band it "was" boogered up at one time.

Then someone put it on there.  It didn't come that way.

I'm with Swampman on this one, unless one of you barrel bandless owners can prove otherwise.
And, I'll bet my last 3 barrel bands, that aint gonna happen.

I'm just curious, what purpose does the barrel band serve... theres allready a screw holding the forarm on... I just picked one up in 223, has no band, looks great, have yet to fire it. Bob
