I'm sure they can. I have seen Tim has a light 30-30 Topper barrel on a modern SB2 receiver.

Thanks, Dinny

I don't know about your receivers, but when I was having FTF issues with my old Topper 30-30, I tried it on a 7-08 frame and my 45-70 frame and it wouldn't even come close without something being majorly welded up and recut.  So I gave up on that idea and put more effort into getting mny frame to work properly.  Then a couple years later on I had difficulty with it again and without thinking I grabbed a .45 colt I had and locked right up.  Go figure.  So the answer is a definate 'maybe'.  44 Man

Hi Padre.  Good to see you here.  I'm sure Dinny is right.  I believe all the Toppers were SB1 or equivalents.  Tim'll be here for sure to confirm.  The best for the New Year from Patty and I.

Lewis, I've had a few Toppers on SB2s, and usually had to try a few before I got a good lock-up.  I've got two just now taking up space on SB2s.  I've gotta get on the stick and get some SB1s.

It will work fine if it can be made to fit, I have a 30-30 Topper M158 barrel on a modern SB2 frame, it works fine. Just be aware that anything made by H&R Inc will have a soldered underlug, for rifle barrels(since you didn't mention the chambering) that means SAAMI loads only, no hot rod loads or high pressure rechambers.

FWIW, I had another Topper 30-30 at one time, it wouldn't come close to fitting any of the 12-15 modern frames I had at the time, the underlug was far too long to cut the pivot to fit, so I suspect vintage frames had more tolerance in their dimensions than modern frames.

Thanks guys for all the info.  Looks like it could be more problems than I am willing to chance.  BTW it was a 30-30.
Hi Pete, I've just been in and out, mostly reading the Forum not buying or selling right now.  I pray a blessed and prosperous New Year for everyone and remember to "keep yer powder dry!"

+1 my 158 30-30 with irons fit on 2 of my frames without alterations.  There is a bit of side to side slop when open, but doesn't seem to hurt it.  ;)

Interestingly my 22 Hornet Topper barrel fit perfectly on my 410/45 Survivor Frame.  I was shocked, but it has added a whole new dimension to that bag of tricks.

I have an older Topper barrel on a later frame.  I had about 20 frames at the time, it fit the one.  No other barrel I ever tried on that frame even came close to fitting, I just hung on to it for sheer cussedness.  It finally paid off, go figure.  The short answerr is, try it.  If it fits, great.  If not, oh well, keep looking.  I prefer the later frames for the safety features, but the transfer bar is just another component to break.  All about trade offs.
