Springfield Savage mod 511 12 ga double barrell questions.
« on: January 03, 2013, 03:44:13 PM »
I got the gun cheap for a river gun and need some info. It is 28" from breech to muzzle. Is marked 2 3/4" chamber "proof tested" 12 ga. Serial # A714628. I looked all over and can not find where it says what the chokes are. I want to use it for ducks on the river but I'm hesitant to shoot steel thru the full choke that most of these guns have. I'm hoping for a mod/imp cyl combo but have no way of telling. The wood and finish are crap but the action is solid as a bank vault.

Out of curiosity I slid a 3" shell in the chamber and the gun took it like a it was made for it????????  Any help would be appreciated
Deer hunting is mostly fun then you shoot one and it turns to work.

Had one that I got cheap and fixed up to sell.  I wouldn't consider shooting 3" in a 2-3/4" chamber if I were you.  Measure the muzzle and compare to the charts for the chokes. Good luck.
