I'd rather have a plastic stock than a rifle that is almost entirely plastic like the 770/783,Tikka, and the Ruger American.

im with JPshelton on this. For the most part it doesnt apply to me because im not buying a ruger american, a savage axis or a 783 or even an adl. If thats the kind of gun that floats your boat go for it but personaly ill save a few more bucks and buy something a bit nicer. I wouldnt go buy a plastic chromed dodad for my truck either. Id save and buy a bit better. Now after saying that i have to admit to having actually bought a couple axis savages and even a couplet atr mossbergs but i bought them as first rifles for my grandkids. If they want better they can save there own pennys or wait till grandpa kicks the bucket and fight over mine.  :P

I agree with Lloyd and JP Shelton, I want nothing to do with the entry level rifles or shotguns put out now by various manufacturers.  I have looked at the ADL's, SPS, Ruger Americans Savage Axis and I don't like any of them.  The closest I ever come to having something on that order was a Savage 110 22-250 that I bought used and had a flimsy synthethic stock.  I put a Boyds laminated stock on it along with a Timney trigger and it was an excellent rifle.  The worst five shot group it shot was 3/4" with my handloads.  All the rifles I own are BDLs, CDLs, Ruger 77's and such, I have no use for cheap rifles.
Good Shooting,
George

The most accurate rifle I've ever owned or fired in 50 years of shooting is my 700 ADL in .30-06.

Yet another FAIL by Remington.

I completely agree with Swampman....the 783 is JUNK in my opinion.

There are far, FAR better choices for close to the same money.

I'll pass!

I dunno Swamp...I have a TIKKA T3 Hunter (wood stock) in 243 that shoots as well as my Rem700s, custom barreled Rugers (funny how I ALWAYS rebarrel Rugers) and my SAKOs.  That is MOA with almost anything I shoot in it.  I do agree that the new Rem offering is a feeble attempt to gain market share when an ADL is almost perfect for a budget shooter worth buying.

I wouldn't have a Tikka and who can afford a Sako.

Who can afford a Sako? People who could buy a whole bunch of 783's but value their money too much to just blow on crap I guess.

There are tons of rifles that are better than the Sako and they don't cost $2000.00.

So? To each his own concerning the Sako. Would I give 2K,No! But if someone does, they stand a better chance of getting their money back with the Sako than with the cheap Rem afterthought. That was what I meant, should have explained myself a little better I guess.

Swampy has his opinion and I respect it.  Like allot of guys, I buy and sell as the mood strikes me.  I wanted a SAKO, didn't pay 2k, actually cost $1500 and I sold/traded a few things to offset the price. Same with the TIKKA, cost $650.  Both shoot as well as my remingtons and I own quite a few of those....just wanted something different......I'm happy with my trades/purchases.  Would I replace all of my 700s with Sakos...of course not.....would I buy a Sako over a 700...depends.......variety is the spice of life!

X2....
Internet forums like this are filled with people who claim to be too poor to buy something like a SAKO on the one hand, while on the other hand they brag about a collection of "budget bolt actions" that set them back more to buy than a SAKO would have.  Count me as one who would rather have ONE good rifle than a closet full of bottom-price point poo.
