45-70 loads in 450 Marlin
« on: January 07, 2013, 10:05:50 AM »
Can the 45-70 loads be used in the 450 Marlin? The 450 doesn't have as many loads as the 45-70 does. I have a 450 and would like to reduce the recoil to make it more friendly to shoot. Have gotten older and now that recoil seems to hurt more than in my younger days.

They have similar case capacity, 79gr for the 45-70 to 74gr for the 450M, shouldn't be a problem using trapdoor load data, levergun data may be a different matter tho if using Hodgdon or Hornady 40k data.  ;)

Here's some low velocity cast data specifically for the 450M.

Here's a discussion on using 450M loads in the 45-70 instead, but it has some measured case capacities for comparison.
