I just bought a new .35 whelen today. I was aware of the failure to fire issues of the past, but rolled the dice anyways. Well since the sale, I've come to find out my gun is on the recalled SKU list, 72540. I never was good at gambling and shouldn't have jumped so quickly with the purchase. They are just next to impossible to find in south MS with the new primitive weapon laws. Anyways, I call the store I purchased it at and tell them my concern I have bought a lemon and should I return it before I fire it and it becomes a used gun. I am told to crack the barrel open, and to look for some writing on the side of the barrel that can only be seen when opened. I see a stamp that I believe says REP and then there is some light hand engraving that appears to be some numbers and letters. The man at the store says my gun has been repaired based on this. Is this correct? What do the numbers and letters mean? Thanks.
