WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO RESTURANT
« on: January 08, 2013, 12:50:41 AM »
Wheather on the road or at home, for eating anytime of the day or night.
I DO have strange eating habits, I admit. Breakfast food is just about my favorite meal--ANYTIME.
I like Waffle House---food and menu are consistant anywhere and all the food is good.
Blessings

In our new home area, probably Stump Knockers. It's a full serve restaurant but I go there for the seafood. I don't eat during the night hours but there closed then anyway.  ;)

I like buffets and right now if I had to pick one, or two, they would be at The Lucky Eagle casino and at Little Creek casino in Washington State.  Other than those, which are an hour drive, or more, we most often visit a local Chinese, or Mexican joint.  For some reason, our town has a plethora to choose from.

When travelling I try to avoid any chain restaurant.  I try to find out from locals where they eat, usually when I stop for fuel I ask.  When I get there, I look on the menu for something I've never had before or maybe something that is prepared in a way more specific to that region.  I travelled with a Geology group one time in college and we stopped in Southern New Mexico at a Dairy Queen.  Dairy Queen!?!  I was livid.  I walked across the street to this little food wagon stand (construction trailer-style).  They got to sit and eat their frickin hot dogs and burgers and watch me eat tamales with green sauce and a sopaipilla.

The group of Geologists did NOT stop at a fast food place for the rest of the trip.

Eating something different and new is one of the joys of travelling to a different area.  It's akin to test riding someone else's motorcycle. -Minimal commitment and possibly a new favorite.  Too many people view restaurant/meal choice like they're buying a car.  It's one meal.  If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.
Just my Awf Hand comments...

When I was working, and on the road a lot, almost anywhere that looked clean.  Now that I am retired, I usually cook for myself.  BUT, there is an Amish general store just down the road that makes roast beef hoagies - about a pound of rare roast beef with hot mustard and tomatoes on a toasted home made onion roll.....:)  Now that I am thinking about it, I might go there for lunch.....

Although it is about 30 miles from our home their is a Holderman Mennonite owned cafe in a very small town. Almost everything is made from scratch. They are famous for their pies and their own home made German Sausage. Extended family members grow/raise much of what is served including their own catfish. I am not much of a salad eater but their salad bar in the summer time is to die for and they of course make their own dressings. Need to be wheel barreled to your car when finished.

Ever since I got hurt and had to go back to school we cant afford to eat out. Usually when we do go it is to eat at some nasty fast food joint, or I might get lucky and eat at the nasty school cafeteria between classes. I dont know whats worse the school cafeteria or the McD's dollar menu :P

What phrase will you never hear at a Waffle House -" Good job cleaning up "! The ones where I live are nasty. My vote is for  Outback.

Breakfast  -  Original Pancake & IHOP
Dinner    -   Sonny's BBQ or Southern Pig & Cattle
Supper  -   Longhorn's Steakhouse or if I happen to be in Russleville Arkansas  -  Browns Catfish House

If I have no choice but a fast food place I try to support Chic-fillet (not sure on that spelling)

Fast food  Chic fil A.... the absolute cleanest you will find anywhere, want even pull into the parking lot of a mcd's much less try to eat something.
Hate most resturants but macaroni grill if I have to and can find one. When travling I go alone or with family. If I was going hunting or something with a bunch of guys I would say I will meet you there. Most of the guys I know would pull into anything and eat from a sewer.

Locally I love the Sizzler. I always get the all-you-can-eat salad bar and am never disappointed. They've always got taco fixin's, wings and beef & gravy. Just tonight they celebrated Elvis' birthday with meatloaf, grilled PB & banana sandwiches, mashed spuds and gravy, banana pudding, and cornbread and fried chicken. I had 2 plates plus ice cream and watermelon. Good food!

When we travel we look for a diner with a parking lot full of cars that the local eat at. Never had a bad meal, yet.

Rosalie's Good Eats Cafe! Just kidding ;)
Polly's Kitchen! Polly's the wife. I don't trust eating out, but if I'm traveling and starving, I'll stop at M D's for a sausage and Biscuit.

For me?
A chinese place will get the nod as will a Mexican food joint. If the wife is along, it'll be Panera, or Olive Garden. She has more refined tastes.

Breakfast will be Ron's Lounge. Two Sausage Muffins, a large coffee three creams, and no I don't want the nasty oil sponge.
