New stock set for my soon to be 405 Classic
« on: January 09, 2013, 09:47:42 AM »
Here are a few pics of the stock set I traded elkslayer4x5 out of on my soon to be 405 Classic.
I did swap out the forearm spacer for a brass one.
Thought it complamented the Myrtle wood quite nicely.
As soon as I can get in touch with Wayne I will be sending it off to be re-bored and re-chambered to 405 Winchester.
It is topped with a old style SIMMONS AETEC 2.8x10x44 scope in old style Weaver off set rings.

Thanks a bunch elkslayer.
You did a beautiful job!!!  ;)

You're welcome LT! Glad you're happy with the stock, took me a long time to decide to turn loose of it! LOL, started that stock over 5 years ago :D . Kinda used to have it around, glad it found a happy home.

Thanks! Now if oldsoldja would post some pics of the lefthanded stock that he traded two recivers and a scope to 6x5 for his new lefthanded Redwood burl Monte Carlo stock set, you'd see another beautifull stoock set, built especially for oldsoldja's extra large hands. We had second thoughts about letting go of that paticular piece of burl!!  ;)

4x5,

Without a doubt, very nice job on the stocks.

LT,

I know this is getting a little off topic, but whatever happened with the breech plug?  Did you get a replacement?

Sorry OS but I got my first reply mixed up with another gun I was having problems with.
Had to take a few minutes and think.
Yes, I still had the plug that was in my 50 cal Huntsman when I swapped it out to a 209 system
It fit fine.
What I need now is a new wrench.
I really messed up the one Kurt (PHATINJUN) made for me trying to get the old plug out.
To be honest, I kind of forgot about it.
It is in the BP Gun safe with the rest of them.
I do need to prusue that forsure before next season.

If that rifle had a receiver sight mounted to the frame and a front sight mounted on one of those sleeves (don't remember exact name) on the barrel, it would be about the best looking rifle on the planet.

Update:

Emailed Wayne on Fri and he replied back today.
It's all set.
The 38-55 Target Classic goes out as soon as I can pack it up.
He said no problem on turning it into a 405 Winchester.
Should fit right in with my 50-140, 500 S&W, 45-120, 450 Marlin, 45-70s, 460 S&W, 454 Casull, 444 Marlin, 445 Super Mag and now the 405 Winchester.
Got to love those BIG BORES!!!
