I never cared for the ambidextrous safeties on any 1911. I found, for me anyhow, it was too easy to wipe the safety off in everyday carry. A good holster will have a detent in the leather/kydex that cradles the thumb safety when it is engaged. I either had these ambi safeties changed out to a single or had the lever ground off smooth. For sure, I agree 110% on a lot of training with a 1911. I love them, but since I had that joint replacement in my gun hand, I found the Glocks wider web more comfortable, even on my 10mm. Good luck to you Pard.
PS I carried Buffalo Bore 230 +P fmjfn in the mountains in my Kimbers. Never had to use them, but they just made sense to me.

Mine has the single safety. Don't think I'd like the ambidextrious one.
