Now that my deer season has wound down, I went to order some 223 cal. bullets I wanted to try on coyotes; the 52 gr. Sierra Match King HPBT. After checking reviews in a number of places, it got very high marks as being fur friendly. We're talkin DRT, no exit wound.
Naturally, now that I want them the supplier I use lists them as out of stock, no backorder!
I couldn't find another 223 bullet that was reviewed so positively in this area so I resigned myself to using FMJ's this year. Then I remembered I had a couple of hundred 100 gr. Speer 25 cal. HP's! I had bought them off the GBO classifieds a good bit back. A seller had advertised them as SP's but they were HP's.
It wasn't worth the effort to me to send them back to him so they have just been sitting on a shelf.
I hunted with my 25-06 Handi Rifle this year and found I really like the cartridge. And I hold the quarter bores right up there with the 6.5's in my highest esteem!
So I says to myself, "Self, maybe the 25 HP's are fur friendly!?"
And here I am, asking the opinion of those who know! Or don't know but still have an opinion!
