Some cases are interesting to study, such as ..Mother Shipton ... or ..  Thomas the Rhymer..   you can Google those two..   Even H.G. Wells to a certain extent...but his pronouncements could well have been simply from thoughtful analysis and estimating the natural course of things.

I often have wondered if H.G. Wells and for that matter Dick Tracy and Star Trek didn't in fact inspire many things to be built rather than see into the future.

As  William pointed out, for the serious Christian, many of the things discussed here come from the "dark side" of existence:
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
10Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter ina the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 13You must be blameless before the Lord your God.      (Deut 18:10-13)
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
    Saul decided to visit a witch for "fortune telling" and lost any chance he had at salvation;
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
7Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”
“There is one in Endor,” they said.
8So Saul disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.  (1 Sam 28:7,8)
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
  Saul KNEW this was forbidden, but he defied God and did it anyway;
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer*.12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee  (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
  * A necromancer...one who "talks to the dead"..as in spirtism etc.

I believe that the human brain, when unhindered by the many forms of distractions and static of our society is quite powerful. Man has yet to build a computer that processes information quicker than the human brain does. And I've heard it said that our brains have evolved very little if any in 50 thousand years.

So, for you religious types, one could say that god designed it correctly and that is where we stayed. And for the evolutionists (not necessarily atheists), one could say that it is entirely our own faults for neglecting, or not nurturing the potential of our brains and thus what ever extrasensory abilities we may have had are now diminished.

@ Anna; Yes, I believe that our brains are capable of soooo much more than for what we use them. I could write about my ideas forever, but I'll spare everyone as we all know how long winded/keyboarded I can be  ;D .

As for the use of psychics in police work; I think it's just an underhanded sham used to establish reasonable suspicion and probable cause in order to obtain warrants. Cops are nefarious in that way.

IG, your quotes seem to support what you say, but they also warn against "consulting with the dead" (learning from history), and being an "observer of times." So, we're supposed to ignore the bible itself, the founding fathers, history in general, as well as what's happening in the news today as well? Those passages are more of a general forbidding of looking outside faith for knowledge, with Saul's visit to the medium as an example.

I don't know if psychic ablity is a good term. It brings up ideas of slight of hand etc. What I believe is if you open your mind and trust/believe in God and seek information thru. God you will be ansewered. I also believe people see things in their mind all the time as the brain is way more useful than most realize. But they are busy with other things or have been trained not to notice . As example many will say they had a funny feeling and moved just before something would have hurt them. I know a man who in VN had prayed to God to protect him . He said as he walked point if the hair on his neck felt like it was standing up he would drop to the ground . Said it saved him several times.
I don't believe loto numbers or other personal gain comes from this though.
I also think that mass prayer works in much the same way.

That's why I said for "serious Christians"..meaning serious enough to study the whole Bible.  Consulting the dead certainly doesn't mean referring to historians, past scientists etc..I already explained it was referring to necromancy as I noted in that post..  *necromancer= spiritist mumbo-jumbo...  You must know it was a long stretch of credulity to go where you went with that..! ;)
One who truly studies the Bible knows that "observers of the times" is speaking of astrology, a device in common use by pagans in OT times and still consulted fruitlessly, by some today..
Contrary to what you aver above, Christians are great students of history, science and our founding fathers.  We are continually having to remind unbelievers about statements of our founding fathers and events of history.
Although they don't have a corner on it, Christians are among the foremost in science, manufacturing and technology..

So can a psychic plead self defense for killing someone because they "knew" the person was going to attempt to kill them? ;D

Most of the science and math came from the Muslims, originally. Just sayin'.

Were they themselves Muslim or is it that they resided in what eventually became Muslim Countries?  I would expect the Chinese would argue the point as to origins as would the Egyptians.

Your point is taken though. Not all Muslims, historically speaking, were ignorant savages bent on making this a third world planet.

Lets see your documentation on this . In reality as for math no one person or group invented it . algebra is credited to an Arabic Scholar but there were others using some forms of it long before him such as the greeks , Chineese ,indians Mayans etc. Just Saying.

Before we get into a Muslim thing---once again.
In the NT is a person who had a slave. She could tell the future and had many powers. When the spirits were driven from her and she was set free, she was of no value to him and he became angry.
The point is---there ARE spirits agthered around us---they are either demonic in origin or Angels. History in the NT Church abounds with cases where angels became involved with humans to protect them. It is also the case where demons have bound humans.
To deny this is sticking your head in the sand. The line from "Usual Suspects" is drawn from scripture----Satan has done a good job of conviencing folks that he does not exist.
I have felt evillurking overmy shoulder and also know that I have a guardian angle watching over me---it makes his presence known in strange but real ways.
You may scoff---I would---if I was not me.
Blessings

I don't scoff at you William. I don't actually believe in fire and brimstone and guys with horns and a tail but I know a thing or two about evil... from personal experience  ;) .

To keep it simple, I do believe in.... how should I put it... PRESENCE.

But I won't presume to know exactly what it is that I've sensed as it has never spoken to me in the manner that so many others claim.

As for "signs" and "mysterious ways", well, I try always to be aware of my surroundings and have all my wits about me but again I wouldn't presume to claim an absolute KNOWING of what such entities actually are based upon abridged and overly translated story books. But I suppose that it is as good a place as any to start.

But I, like you also believe in the "PRESENCE".

Acts Chapter 16 verse 16, but also people that participate in psychic, or soothsaying, or witchcraft, what ever one wants to call it is in conflict with God. Micah Chapter 5 verse 12. While posting these scriptures I don't think they speak as much about Psychic abilities as they do about BIBLICAL Demon possession

(Why do you think they're called "Arabic" numerals?)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_science

Hindus and Babylonians, mostly--- Pagans who became Muslims, later, after trying Jesus and later saying, "That ain't it." Well, the Hindus did borrow a lot from the Chinese, too, I have to admit. Hey, of course math came from polytheistic cultures originally--- they had to have some way of keeping up with all those gods! Our math and science was passed down from the Middle Ages. Their scholars studied the Greek and Latin scholars, who studied the scholars in the Middle East, who had access to India and China.
