Lance Armstrong to Admit Cheating

Well I was going to dig up the old topic of when Lance got busted and lost all his wins... There were an awful lot of people who said he was on the up and up.

I guess he gets the last laugh, since even though he cheated and got all of his wins pulled, he is still worth an estimated 100 million.

I am saddend. Lance was one guy you hoped didn't do it. After a huge fight with cancer and winning many races. Sure he is a bit arrogant etc. I just hoped he hadn't done it.
 
Why Oparah, well it's about the money, I am sure she paid more than anyone else.

I rented a bicycle at Calloway gardens one time to ride around their lake, and about halfway around my wife had to talk me out of throwing the bicycle in the lake and walking the rest of the way.

Well after reading through some of those posts again, you're probably right, but they sure had me fooled!

I made some pro Lance posts there because at the time it looked like a witch hunt with a lot of hearsay from admitted dopers. If he actually admits it now in the face of overwhelming evidence, then That changes everything.

If Mr. Armstrong did accomplish what he did with the aid of some enhancement substance, or procedure, the only thing that changes is that he did it with the use of outlawed enhancements.  He still rode a mean bike. 


Does anyone involved these days in highly competitive professional sports not take advantage of some kind of performance modifiers?  My guess is that most do.  The difference is degree and what is considered legal and acceptable.  That doesn't mean that I think they are all doping, but I'll bet that a lot of them take mega-something--even if it's just vitamins.  Does anyone believe that football players could make it through a season without pain killers, or therapies of some type? 


I don't mean to rationalize what Lance did, but his greatest sin was to lie about it--if he did.

Putting a tag on his greatest sin isn't that easy imo. His whole life and career is a lie so it's tough to pinpoint...
 
And the reason Oprah got it is because she will make him the victim by the end and try to make everyone feel sorry for the fraud that is Lance Armstrong.

The chart showed all the winners of the Tour through the beginning of Lance's riding time and showed how many had already been proven to be doping. 
In stripping Lances titles, 2nd place should be awarded the "Win", correct?  Too bad 2nd through 6th were shown on this chart in most years as users of the banned EPO or something else.  So who was the first "clean" winner??  In some years it went back into the teen-positions before they had no evidence of using.

Lance had been pursued the hardest because he was at the top SO many times.  The other riders in 2nd thru 10th place in many of the years of Lance's racing career have largely been discovered to have been doping.  A rider who finished in 20th place would not be pursued for testing as vigorously, so, who cares.  I'm not excusing his behavior by saying they're all doing it.  But, dang...  The tallest one around gets hit by lightning the hardest.

I'm as disappointed in Armstrong as I am any other athlete. They make a living PLAYING. I'm sure someone will take issue with that statement, but it is no more important to me, than football, baseball (which I watch), or any other sport. It is a SPORT. It isn't necessary to anything. It's entertainment, whether you watch it, or participate.
If your sport is bicycles, you don't need Armstrong to continue ridding or watchin someone else ride.

No, I won't lose any sleep over it at all. The only smidgen of interest I have in it are all the people who just ignored the facts that were so obvious that he cheated. Even before the report came out, anyone who looked at his record objectively should have been able to figure it out.  And also that he made hundreds of millions from being a cheater that so many looked up to. It probably made it easier to cheat because of him beating cancer and his foundation. Made him look holier than thou even though he was more like the snake...

We have real issues to worry about and all of this energy is being expended on worrying about wether or not some guy who rode a bicycle cheated or not. If he is a cheater and a liar he should have a bright future in politics.

But, Dee, how will I know what bike to ride or what clothes, helmet or shoes to wear?
It was amazing how many folks I have ridden past dressed exactly like Lance riding the same bike.
I suppose its no different than wanting a #12 Jets jersey or a #15 Packers jersey when I was a kid.

I wonder what the cost benefit analysis is for Armstrong in admitting this. He must have gotten a hefty amount of money for the interview. After interviews like this, usually all is forgiven by the public. I didn't see the interview, but I imagine he's painted himself as a victim of a bad system.
 
I also wonder if this changes anything in cycling. If doping is common, and you have to be someone at Armstrong's level to worry about getting busted, then where's the incentive to change the sport?

Not if you understood the statement, which you apparently didn't. The rabbit is HONESTLY tryin to get away, and the coyote is HONESTLY tryin to catch him. Neither is dopin, and both are hopin.

Lance Armstrong is just another example of a man that so many believed in, only to find out he was nothing more than a fraud. So many of my heros as i was a child turned out to be frauds, so many.
I sure others here could speak of the fallicy of false idols. if i have learned one thing in this life, it is that no man is a god.

Well that answer is pretty dog-gone easy, he was really good at it.

Seems like about everyone in the races was doping. I guess that makes Lance still a heck of an athlete because he beat them all. 

It's professional sports. Lots of MONEY and hero worship involved and people doing everything they think they can get by with trying to get all they can.
