I like specific firearm discussion groups--it just seems that everybody is already on the same page.
I have tried to start some discussins here that have led to no results.
NOW, I am not discounting the fact that they are threads that hold specific interest to me or that I just don't have interesting thoughts  :-[ :) ;)  but I am wondering if folks on this site are really not revolver fans.
I would like to get more interest going here---matter of fact---I DEMAND IT---I have spoken ::) :P ;D ;D .
Let's hear it from S&W folks.

Since I dropped my S&W in the river as I was shooting turtles, I can't discuss them.
and with my wild gyrations as I tried to catch it, all of my other guns, which I happened to have with me, fell in too.  I'm now defenseless unless you send me one of yours.

We went to Nashville after Christmas and spent some time with a neice and her husband, and her husband showed me a pistol he had inherited from his dad,
It was a S&W 422.  that was the prettiest 22 pistol I had ever held.  the frame size and barrel length was in perfect proportion for a 22.

I have more S&W handguns than any other maker , with most of those being DA " Wheel " guns , I just seem drawn to them , everything from a Mod 36 all the way up to a 657 in 41 GNR , my most shot is a little 3" 38 S&W ( not 38 spl. ) that I had to get dies and a mold for just to shoot it .

The next in line is the 22A that for some reason only likes CCI Stingers @ $10 a box , but it does shoot them VERY well , so I can't complain too much .

I loved my 22A before I dropped it in the river ;) , I never fired a stinger in it.  I tried a couple of bulk ammos and had stovepipes until I found federal auto match and it never hiccuped after that.
I guess it was accurate, I tremble so bad that I couldn't tell.

I don't start threads here simply because I no longer have any S&W's.    Had a bunch of them from the late 50's until I sold the last one maybe late 90's.   Their DA wheel guns were an early on favorite that saw a ton of use for decades, and with few exceptions were my first choice.   Same with a couple of 41's as well, and the list is fairly long of those I later wished I had not sold (especially the early ones I had).   The years I was a gunsmith from the early 70's more Smith's came in for custom work or reblue/refurbuish than all other handgun brands combined.   We did uncountable numbers of action tuning, TT/TH, sight upgrades, reblue that were even retrofitted to old models.

So any input form me here is usually in reply to a thread about a same model I had, maybe a help question, maybe relating to hunts or matches with them.    The few years same era when I was on the Board of Directors of Eastwoods private gun club I shot all matches with Smith's, and some of my hunting was with them as well (although most hunting was with SA's and single=shots).

say my l.e. trade-in 681.
it stays on my tool belt with
all my fence-fixing goodies like

I stop into this forum from time to time but I only have one S&W right now and have not shot it in a while. I am thinking about making on offer on a 686 7shot that I looked at last week. I was going to a gun show in town today but that did not work out. I started another post about that though. (link below)

For a long time most shops have had gold in their eyes too and they themselves drive customers away.    Shops I had dealt with for years came off the list when they in turn screwed me over a few times.   Not just a few bucks but as much as hundreds.   On the last two new firearms that I arranged with the US Rep myself AND gave "my" shop more than enough money up front to buy.   Instead of their what had been normal 10% over cost plus shipping for unstocked firearms they charged me full retail.   Lost not only me as a customer, but all my friends, everybody I knew at the private gunclub I belonged to.   They made hundreds extra off me, a very small percentage of what they lost because of it.

I also stopped going to gun shows (other than the SHOT Shows) in the mid 90's as most just had trash anyway and very few firearms that were mostly over priced.    I've pretty much bought all my firearms on-line for years, get more to choose from and for way better prices.   I sell them all on-line too - last time I tried to put one on consignment with a local shop they wanted 40% commission.   The FFL I use now does transfers part time, and for a fee way below what the shops charge.   So I have no pity for local gun shops struggling, they earned it.

You need to use a lanyard for that kind of shooting. I have a lanyard ring on one of my pre war 22 outdoorsman.

I still attend some of the Gunshows, not as many as I did, and yes for the mostpart the dealers have drove the gun buying/collecting customers away, you will find that the customer base now is shopping for the newest coolest item out there, there are a few of us who go 3 to 4 that go as a social outlet more than a buying spree, I still have a good relationship most of the older dealers as I did own a gunshop here on the place yrs. ago and was in the Pawn business until a year ago retired from that, and if anything comes in I might be interested in it comes home with me, I dont do NEW guns anymore as nothing out there impresses me now.  Jim

I am willing to pay a fair market value for a gun but I am not a collector of fine pieces--and it seems some boys have got the idea that because it is a certain Model then it is a fine piece---no matter the condition.
I like shooters that if I do something to it or shoot it a bunch or carry it, it will not detract from the value.

Even my high end custom firearms were shooters, I hang art on the walls.  Same here on price, I paid the toll for what I wanted from dealers and on-line sales, and I paid the shipping/fees.  If they were over priced, I simply looked elsewhere.   But the words "fair" and "reasonable" do not have the same meaning to a lot of dealers in their shops or at gun shows.    Pretty much the same with people in general for that matter now days.   All it takes to see that is to list something for sale for a more than fair/reasonable price and you'll get far more responses for lower offers than you will from buyers willing to pay the asking price AND the shipping.   I started selling 85 firearms and all their related gear 7-8 years ago when the health failed - why I still have what I do left is I didn't get many buyers who would pay a fair price.   That includes NIB firearms I bought years ago and never got around to using being offered for what I paid for them to way less than what I paid for them years before even though their current price was considerably higher at the time.   Matters not whether a $300 or $3000 firearm.   This is a haggle world now with many folks using the economy as an excuse to do so.   So I sold some really special and rare firearms with very high values to close friends for lower prices to find new homes for them, something I will not do to lower offers on ads of anything I list for sale.  They may think its a buyers market, but its not on my ads.

I like my rugers but there's something about the S&W in my hand it just feels right.  Watching the history channel about the S&W story told me i had to have a few S&W revolvers to play with.  Now my problem is i'm hooked on the new S&W 's and the old ones too)pre war/ post war).  I'd like to have an equal assortment of older S&W and colt revolvers too. As far as price wise it is what it is if its in great condition they are bringing top dollar at some places.  I like many guys look for an affordable price too.  I got into the older S&W and Colt revolvers looking for the 22cal handguns.   The quality of these made me look at the ones in 38 special too.  I'm torn between the new and old revolvers.

No confusion here between old and new... the old models always win.   Have one on its way to me right now, a very early example in near mint condition even though I could have bought a brand new one if I had wanted to.   The submodel I am getting is long discontinued and much nicer than the only versions they sell now.

You need to know how to deal with pawn shops.
1) only deal with the manager or owner
2) figure out what you are willing to pay for the item and bring $20 less in cash in your front pocket and the last $20 in your wallet.
Pull out the Cash, that is a fair offer (if you want to know how much they paid for it, bring in a gun and ask how much you can pawn it for to figure out their wiggle room)
They will say no and ask if you want anything else in the store, Say NO you want that. Scoop up the $ from the counter and keep it in your hand say you are going to see if you can find one in another shop, and head for the door with the cash visable.  Get to the door and putthe $ in your pocke before opening the door and he will make a counter offer, pull out the extra $20 and tell him you still need lunch and he will take all but a hot dog from that 20, usually.  The manager or the owner will not let $ out the door especally if you are headed to another store to spend CASH and he can make some $ on the deal.

William, you are as bad influence on me as I see your postings and look at how you have customized your S&Ws.
I now have quite a few S&W revolvers one single action.
I think the 10 I own and the diversity of the collection makes me a true S&W fan.  (we will not count the S&W Sigma I own)
M-17 6" with target hammer and sights
S&W I frame 3" 32S&W long (later called a M30)  Mine made in the 30's
M 642 2" lady smith
No 1 top break with the spur trigger Made in 1874 in 38 S&W 3" nickel finish
M 10 (everyone has to have a M10 or an M&P) 4"
M 65 4"  My 3rd with the 4" and I had one with a 3" and Stupidly sold the others. Still looking for another 3" round butt
M 28 4"
M 686 6" sillohuette model with the adjustable front sight
M29 6" target hammer and target trigger and I have added the smooth target stocks to mine.
New M629 4" that I pick up in a week.  I am looking at William's revolvers and thinking of how I want to customize mine with stocks and if I want to polish it to a bright nickel finish or bead blast it to a dull grey, and what holster I want for it.
Does the Uberti copy of a S&W No 3 wells fargo model count?

FOLKS, contrary to what most people think about guns, they are fun on a lot of different angles/levels.
It is fun to shoot them and I don't have any---but one---that is a safe queen. This Colt snake gun of a Python is just to pretty and too much fun to look at too shoot it. All the rest serve their fun purpose in the ways that guns should serve.
I talk about making a gun your own--making it special to you---in the same ways that hot rodders take classic cars and make them their own---in spite of priests screaming and hollering.
My wife asks me a lot---what in the hell am I supposed to do with your guns when you die? I don't know---I hope the kids and grandkids will appreciate them, maybe she will sell the and someone else will have fun with them---Actually, I DON"T CARE and won't be looking over my shoulder.
My work career was building projects---I enjoy the process. It allows the creative juices to flow even though I don't and never did have the skills to actually perform the work, I can still be a part of the project. I can't even imagine how much more fun it would be if I had the skills to do it myownself.
I just can't look at much and be satisfied with it-----I just got to do something to it.
Blessings

William, I replied on your KILL ME post, I believe, (it's been so long) asking about your .327 Federal conversion and you never answered me.  I don't know if you didn't see it or you were just ignoring me LOL.  Anyway, I had Mr. Bowen rebore my Model 16 cylinder to .327 Federal magnum and just wanted to compare notes--what grain bullet you find most accurate, etc.
I agree with you about the forum, but I think revolver shooters are more laid back than pistol. I even noticed at the range that the pistol shooters seems to be running around loading and firing and seeing how many rounds they can burn up, while the revolver shooters seem to be shooting at a more leisurely pace, doing a little more socializing, and aiming for tighter groups.  I know I have opened a can of worms with my comments, but observe the next time you go to the range.  I shoot both revolver and pistol and I find myself enjoying my revolvers over my pistols.  By the way, all my handguns are S&W except for 1 modified Colt Officer Model and 3 1911's. Still got room in my bucket for a Model 24, if I can ever find one.

S&W make fine firearms. I have only owned two however, a model 10 and a model 36. For some reason I just never bonded well with the model 10. The model 36 is a snubbie from the 1960s, but in like new condition. I have really grown to like that little gun and can shoot it as well as I could the 10 with a four inch barrel. The 36 has a much nicer action/trigger than the 10 did. I like single stack autos but with small hands I do not like double stacks. Concerning other revolvers, I have had a Colt .22 SA but I had a Hawes that I could shoot better with. I have a BH in .357 which is okay but I really like my Uberti "El Patron" in .45. It also has a very nice action/trigger. YMMV.

In my opinion, the Model 36 is a fine carry gun. I had one back in the 60's with a 3" heavy barrel.  It had a nice balance to it.  I put target grips on it.

The last $250 K frame I bought was when gas was under $2 a gallon. and a box of 38Specials were under $10 a box of 50.  It seems that the more gas costs the more S&W's cost.

I've had the same J frame m38 for 20 some years, carry it daily.  But my latest 686 6" from a pawn shop ( got 2 for $575-that's for BOTH) is my new shoot'in buddy.  Sold off one of the twins, going to keep the other for a couple'a thousand rounds.
