Nothing but suck in this situation.  Gut shooting a deer is bad, gut shooting a thief.... they wouldn't be dead, it's humane. ;)

Sorry  to hear of your being violated.  When my friend had 30 + weapons stolen, the Cops were more concerned about his reason for having so many weapons.  The perp turned out to be his own Heroin addicted brother.

FHP, There are two people I know that have had their home broken into and stuff stolen in the last six months. Both turned out to be their kids. One guy still has not got over it. Daughters with boyfriends can be bad news.
Sorry Ben, hope you are successful in getting your money/stuff.

Sorry to learn of your loss. I have a safe and my collection HAS to fit inside. I check the dial everyday to make sure it's still locked. I don't live in a safe town either. :(

Thanks, Dinny

I had the same thing happen to me years ago when I live in the city.  The crook was never caught, but I found out thru very good sources about 8 years after the burglary that the thief was a co-worker.  It turned out that he had a drug problem, and started stealing to feed the habit.  Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I lost track of him, otherwise I might have had a legal problem.

I hope things work out better for you than it did for me.

Sorry to hear such a thing Ben.  I can only imagine how violated you feel.
As Yak Angler said..it looks like somebody who knew what he was there for ..and where to get it.
What would make a "friend" or acquaintance treat you so badly?  As FBH said, there is one major thing that would make them do it!
When one has a serious drug addiction..they have no friends, loved ones or acquaintances.. their only friend is drugs,.. and more drugs.
Cops said it must be a big guy..+ drugs..Start thinking along those lines, perhaps someone will pop up.

One further bit of advice which may possibly help. I normally pull the butt plate off my guns and put a slip of paper in there, which reads... " this gun belongs to  Joe Doaks, who lives at 32 Elm st, Everytown, MO  Phone (765) 365-9954"'
Of course I just used a bogus address, but use your own in your own guns.   You may even add " if anyone but Joe Doaks brings this gun to you, chances are it's stolen"..  If a gunsmith finds it a couple years later, who knows, he may call you or the cops?

Just remember to remove the slip if/when you transfer it.  A couple years ago I gave a gun to my grandson.  He later was surprised to find gramp's note in the gun..about 20 years after I had placed it in there.. ;)

I hate to hear about you guns.  I cannot stand a thief.  I try to keep all mine locked in a safe but if he was King Kong he could just take that too.  Maybe this stinkin dog we have around the house is good for something after all.

I'm from Tacklebury's area and it's getting bad!  But I winter here in Texas and I love the attitude down here!  If you have to shoot someone for being in your house (or outside if they are stealing), the local police just say 'Well, he should'a known better'.  One good thing about living in RV camps, most of the people there are just good folks.  And living in an RV, it is percieved that you don't have much with you to steal.  :)  44 Man

Sorry to hear about your loss.  Been there got the hat and the t-shirt.

In my case they broke in the first time quietly, cased the joint and took what they could put in their pockets.  I never would have known if I hadn't missed some stuff.  (They took my wife's perfume, she knew quick!)   I hardened the house, deadbolts and all, then they come back later and broke down the door.  They knew where everything was.  They did catch them, both on drugs.  They got out about 6 mo. later due to drug court.

I did get a few guns back because I have all serial numbers  documented.  Whatever they sold was good as gone.

We taught the G-kids shooting, but also explained that they should never tell 'friends' about us. Through the years I cant count the number of times Ive heard of the perps being 'friends of fam' who did the deed. The bad guys are really good fishers of info, too; get somebody revved telling their story and save the info for a heist.

Does the light come on in the daytime as well?  Or just the camera when it is light?

Just the camera in the day time. It's programable as to how long a video, how many still pics, pics and video, etc. Best part is no batteries, no constantly changing cards...and it is a hell of a bright light as well!

Ben,
Very sorry to hear about the break in . Perhaps they will catch them.A friend of mine keeps an old Damascus barreled shot gun out in plain sight loaded with high brass mag loads with JB weld in front of the shell. He figures it will be the last time the rotten S#B will ever pull a trigger on a stolen gun. :o
All the cops say a barking dog is the best security system to have . Personally I think a Rottweiler that is HIV positive is the best!
Trip wires and boards with nails exposed work well too but the law does not see kindly to them.
Good luck on the insurance claim

It's almost eleven here in Ga. and the idiots just tried to boot the next door neighbor's house while they were at home.  He got scared away before he completed his task.  The policeman came by and talked to me and said they found one of my guns at the scene of another breakin where he had dropped it out of his pocket.

He's pushing the envelope.  I will be on watch tonight.  I hope he comes around because I'm tired of this, and I know the cops are too.  They said the guy was like David Copperfield and disappeared every time they got close.

glad to hear they found one.
that's a start.
that also will get the punk some
extra charges for toteing a gun while
committing the other burglary.
if they've got the one gun, hopefully
it won't be long to find the others.

Only read a few replies... saddens and infuriates me to hear this happened.  .357 double tap would be too kind to a thief.  If you recall where most of the jewelry was purchased, the store may be able to find and recreate a list for you, at least it is worth a try.  I hope it all works out and the scumbag is caught and all your belongings recovered.

If you rely on a safe, make sure it's bolted down.  I have a friend who's safe empty weighs 4800 pounds, so he really isn't concerned about it, but most safes need to be bolted down or they'll just take the whole thing and open it at their leisure.

Remember to warn thoseG-kids about that doggone "facebook" and other such sites.  I can imagine lurkers at those sites looking for kids to say something like.." My sister Mary is getting married on Saturday, and our whole family and our neighbors, the Smiths will be at the Johnstown Moose club all afternoon"
How much would some low-down crook enjoy an invite like that...and remember, that "low-down crook" could very well be the drug-head teenager who lives on the next block..
