NY Gun Owners are getting the screw!
« on: January 15, 2013, 03:26:39 AM »
These are the new gun law provisions that just passed the State Senate.

They want to:
1.Further restrict "assault weapons" by defining them with a single feature.  (Current law requires two.)
2.Mandate a Police registry of "assault weapons".  (This to me is the beginning of gun registration, then confiscation.)
3.Establish a state registry of all private sales, with a background check done through a licensed dealer, excluding sales to immediate relatives. (See, what did I tell you.)
4.Require a therapist who believes a patient made a credible threat to use a gun illegally to report the threat to a mental health director, who would then have to report it to the state Dept. of Criminal Justice Services.  A patient's gun could be taken from him or her.
5.Ban web sales of "assault weapons".
6.Restrict ammunition magazines to seven bullets, from 10.  Current owners of higher-capacity magazines would have a year to sell them out of state.  An owner caught at home with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge.
7.Require stolen guns to be reported within 24 hours.  Otherwise, the owner would face possible misdemeanor charge.
 8.Increase sentences for gun crimes.
9.Limit the state records law to protect handgun owners from being identified publicly.

Passage of this in the State Assembly is almost assured with Sheldon Silver and the Democrats in charge, guess what Gov. Cuomo is going to do?

Regarding item the following items:
#4 - Does this mean a credible threat to kill, or injure someone without using a gun doesn't have to be reported?

#6 - I just can't believe this is legal.  It seems a violation of your Constitutional rights.  Forcing you to sell something of yours at a value that maybe less than what it's worth under duress of government.  Something like what happened to the Japanese-Americans during WWII.  They were forced to sell their property, and were given pennies on the dollar for it, beause they were forced to relocate.

#8 - This probably seems like the only provision that makes sense.

#9 - This is a change for the better, but I wonder if it was passed because of pressure from celebrity gun owners who didn't want their personal info made public.

BTW In case your wondering, the reporter of the Journal News who did the story that led to the paper publishing the names and addresses of CCW holders, in turn got his info put on the web.

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2013/01/journal-news-reporters-families-targeted-after-posting-gun-permit-maps/

I'm sure he liked that!

I don't think many people realize the implications of item number #6 - Restrict ammunition magazines to seven bullets, from 10.  Current owners of higher-capacity magazines would have a year to sell them out of state.  An owner caught at home with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge.

The way the law is worded, this may mean that your Glocks, 1911's, 10/22, Garands, Rem 742's, etc. literally anything that can take a magazine that holds more than 7 rounds, could be construed as an "assault weapon".

Gov. Cuomo, you lied! pure and simple, you are after our guns.

Not only those you mentioned with the removable magazines...what about all those millions of little Marlin and Mossberg .22's with fixed mags, or my 1873 Winchester (tubular mags)?  My collection features some fixed mag auto pistols as well....the NY law stipulates the owner of the magazine must sell the mag to be in compliance.  I wonder how this law will address fixed magazine firearms....I feel for you New Yorkers out there, you are the test ground for the "new order" gun laws....glad I am in Michigan (for now)

I'm gonna go along with whatever gun contorl laws are passed, so long as they apply to state & federal employees, too - that's you, FBI, and YOU, NYPD.

Correction, Yellowtail.  You surely will go along with whatever laws are passed, but you'll do it regardless of whom said laws don't affect.  I mean it's comply or face charges, or try and keep your stuff a secret.  That said, if I lived in NY or CA, I'd move.

Lots of people violate all kinds of laws. there's lots of laws that ought to be ignored.

Hey, my post was a shameless bid for Reasonable cred, since reasonable lately seems deined by willingness to go along with gun control.

If it applies to you and me, then it ought to apply to LEO - end of dicsussion on that score.

I read on another forum that the legislation also requires background checks for ammo purchases!  Can that be true?!

I wrote Cumo a few letters,In one I reminded him to make sure he sends all the criminals a copy of this law so they will follow it.   It is not getting passed as fast as he wanted so maybe we have some hope.
That one rule on the 7 round mag is a bit confusing, I got a felling that is for the 1 year grace period. If any one see 7 rd mag for my Glock 17 let me know, I don't think there is any such animal. What a bunch of A_HOLES.

forget it ..its over they lied.. so what is new. they are not going to stop till they get all the guns and cut them up.
if i lived there i would move. it would be great if there was a mass exodus out of that socialist state. draw down so much on the tax revenue and make many cities ghost towns.
if every gun owner moved out and took any business he had out it might have an impact. i have made myself a promise i will buy nothing from within the states of california or new york. if everyone in every state did the same we could bring them to their knees. no online purchases from any one there either. if their companies are headquartered there i will find it elsewhere. if i can not find it elsewhere i will do without.

I wish it were that easy just to pick up and move. But the economy sucks, jobs are limited, selling a house isn't easy and who knows what the other states are going to do in the next year or so with gun control. Not making excuses as I will admit NY sucks and I am embarrassed to be a NY'er at this point but it's real easy to SAY "oh we'll just move".

Depressing day.

The governor has had this  bag tricks up his sleeve for a while . He just waited for the recent tragic events to hit us with this.. I've had a New York pistol permit for years. Now it has to be renewed. Sad day in The Empire State  :'(

Time for NY firearms makers to walk away from the state.  Close the doors now, load up the equipment and move.  Refuse to sell any arms, ammo,  or equipment to NY  state angencies of any kind.  Don't buy from them, don't sell to them, those who can walk away from NY don't give them a dime or the time of day.....

I can only hope blow back from what happened in NY is soooo bad that is dicourages other states from trying to enact the same junk.  I am in super Liberal crap hole myself, and have fears of the same thing happening.  I say lay low and quietly take care of your needs.  Nobody can enforce something this big.  They can even run a DMV.

Same boat here JDenis.  I live way out away from the big cities, and although we get screwed by the politicians all the time, we have been in hopes that they would at least stay out of our business.  But no...liberals are the original "control freaks"..   I can see ammo sales booming along the Pennsylvania & Vermont borders   Hey, here's another big break for the Indian reservations..we have 3 inmy county...   Cuomo has just thrown away more tax moneys..
I may just move yet..I'm retired and working part time and there are two productive, working generations following me who will likely move.  It is becoming apparent that the liberals running this state want to finish making it a helpless, parasite entity.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Even though Oregon is a blue state because of the huge Liberal populations in Portland and Salem, we do have some in law inforcement that not only believe in the Constitution, but are fighting for it. The Sherrif of Linn County, Oregon sent a letter to Biden about the war on honest gun owners.

I am disgusted with this state and the scumbags running it. I'm only 15 minutes from the Vermont border and the grass is really looking greener on the other side.

Right away I wondered if some of the more common autoloader rifles even have 7 round mags. I'm sure they can be made but what a mess.

But yeah, what about my old Marlin39 lever gun?  How many rounds do the old long barrel Winchester lever guns hold? And sheesh I never thought about some of the Marlins and Winchesters that hold 9-10 rounds of 357, 44 etc.

What about a shotgun if you happen to want to carry those short Mexican slug loads - or whatever they are?

I'm sure if folks start asking questions the regulators will be eager to pile on more restrictions rather than relax.

Yeah! Unfortunately it's true.  I recommend that NYer's go to Pennsylvania to buy all their ammo.  Give the business to another state.  Just make sure you us cash.

SENATOR MACHIONE ( pro gun partition) this lady has stepped up and trying to fight the power brokers in NY. She has started a partition to repeal the new regs. on guns. So guys and gals if you live any were in NY State this is the time to stop complaining and sign her partition. I got to say she has bigger nads they Dictator Cumo ever had.  NY's stand up and be counted.
