I was referring to sending my gun in and having a 45-70 barrel fitted to my frame. It is an SB2 frame, but serial starts with NL. Looking at there website, looks they would not fit a 45-70, just a shotgun/black powder or original 30-06. Would they fit a 45-70 if I send it in?
Drock15,
I think you missed petemi's answer to your question.
Welcome Drock15,
Ya gotta read Handi Basics 101 and the FAQs. ...
Number 1, I'm not familiar with the Prostaff, but lots of others here are. They'll be along to help. #2, Choates will work fine and yes they are good. #3, No, the factory will not fit a .45-70 barrel to that frame, but you can. I'd look for one here in the classifieds and fit it myself. There's lots of help here for that. Below is the factory poop from the FAQs.
I don't know what you mean by a factory swap. If you mean barrel for barrel or rifle for rifle the answer is no.
Best of luck. Stick around and ask. We'll help.

If you want a 45-70 barrel on your great uncle's gun, all you have to do is buy a 45-70 barrel from the classifieds and put it on your receiver yourself. It's not hard to fit a barrel. If your lucky, it'll snap right in, without any fitting.
I discovered this site when I started researching a gun I got from a great uncle when he passed. ...
Question 1) I have a NEF 30-06 and I would like to mount a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x50. What rings would you suggest? Question 2). Would like to change from walnut to synthetic. Will Choate stocks work? Are they good quality? Question 3) Would like to get a 45-70 barrel. From research, looks like my gun is a 1996 production model. Will the factory do a swap on this gun? Thanks in advance, Derek
The Nikon Prostaff is a great scope, I would recommend any brand named rings, Walmart has Weaver's which are good. Just make sure you buy "high" rings, otherwise, the hammer or hammer extension might hit the ocular bell of the scope.
