Price check on G2 rifle blued 17HMR...
« on: January 16, 2013, 12:38:28 PM »
saw a $439 price tag on a walnut stocked 17 HMR 23" bull blued today in a shop.
Almost bought it on price alone but decided I just needed to walk away. Price ok, high/low??

Well if you take it piece by piece Barrel around 200 stock set at least 110 and frame at least 250 you see where you are at although the 17 barrel might be why the price is low. 3 years ago a gun dhop here in Tulsa was selling new G2 for 495.00 plus the tax which would be right at 50.00 and that was a 6.8 barrel or you could get a 17 barrel for same money or a pistol in 44 mag 12 inch barrel for same price. I have also seen them at gun shows well used for 500.00 so that should give you some Idea any way, also look and see what some have sold for piece by piece on the forum

I'll hold off for now. I've bought too many guns on 'impulse'. If I wanted a 2nd G2 I would have grabbed this up but lately I've been buying a gun or barrel and then thinking all too soon, 'why did I buy this' : )
I think it's a great deal for someone wanting a 17HMR, OR a good barrel to rechamber to 17 Ackley Hornet of 17 Hornady....if this one is accurate. I've had a few T/C barrels that weren't accurate for me at least.

If the metal and wood was in nice shape I would have bought it instantly. I never see them that low around here.

Well worth the money !

Just try to find a G2 frame these days .

Why not re-chamber it to the new 17 WSM ?
This new 17WSM is going to leave all the others in the dust .
Everybody should do some reading on it quite a caliber !

Wow Alan,

That's surprising that it's still there. That was already a pretty good deal imo. You could probably walk in and offer them $400 flat and they'd likely take it if it's been sitting that long.

My factory TC 17 HMR carbine barrel is incredibly accurate. I have amazed my prairie dog shooting buddies with it. Even if you didn't want the HMR, the "new" (old) 17 Hornet would be cheap and easy to make from it.

I wouldn't go 17 WSM though, that round will be DOA. The 17 HMR is far too entrenched, ammo and guns are far too plentiful. Low numbers of WSM production rifles is likely, and it will go the way of the dodo bird. In 5 years you'll be struggling to find any ammo for it, and you'll be sitting on it hoping for a resurgence in interest before you die. Aka like the Rem 5mm rimfire. Anyone remember that one? How about the 17 HM2? Both good rounds, but both are dead now.

IF anyone wants it: Shipping is $40 plus the $439 cost [no tax] shipped to your FFL. I checked for another poster her that passed on the deal so if anyone wants it, it is in nearby gun store. I'll give you the contact info [no NY or Calif buyers per store owner].
