Are you a NRA member?
« on: January 17, 2013, 03:52:03 PM »
Just curious on who is a NRA member here.  I am, so are the wife and kids ;D

I know every organization has its flaws.  But like attorneys...nobody likes them until they need them.

Thanks for the replies.

Life Member here too, for almost 20 years now I recon.

As to the $300 Life Membership, a current Life member can give a Life membership as a gift for $300: https://www.nra-2013.org/Default.aspx

You have to put in your membership number, zip code, email address and a security code that they display on the page to get to the special offer.

Not only a life member for over 20 years but a life benefactor member for almost as long.
I am as high as I can go without holding an office position.
I guess that means I have given more money then some other members to gain a higher title, I don't know.
I am suppose to have my name engraved on a wall somewhere in the NRA headquarters in Fairfax but have never been there to see it.
Means nothing other than to show I am willing to fight for my second ammendment rights.
I don't always agree with their stance on some issues but I can't be in DC to fight for my rights 24/7 and someone needs to be in order to fight the fight for us all so I joined the largest group there is besides the general population to have a voice in our government.

I will stand for your rights as my forefathers did before me!

I've been a member for as long as I can remember.

Matter of fact, I wore my new NRA ball cap, the one with the big, gold "NRA" on the front, to the grocery store last night.  A young man actually stopped and told me he liked my cap!  He was wearing a UGA (University of Jawja) sweatshirt so I said "thanks!  And I like your sweatshirt!"   ;D

I got so fired up I wore the cap to work today; Friday is casual day.  In Atlanta! the bastion of liberalism!   ::)  One of the Sheriff's Deputies at the magnetometer started happily telling me that he hoped the NRA was going to sue congress and the president!

As much as it goes against my grain to wear a hat indoors or in the presence of ladies, I think I'll wear it around the office all day.   ;) ;D

I thought about joining but I dont want them to waste their time/money mailing me a bunch of literature. Do you guys know if there is any way to opt-out of mail?

If there isnt a way to opt out I will probably just donate money.

Poopers, You'll get junk mail from any organization or company you deal with. You don't need to get the magazine, that's an easy opt out. I don't get much other stuff from them. Usually a few things before major elections, and occasional credit card offers and such. It's not a burden at all.

I was a member for over 25 years then i started getting a LOT of junk mail from them drop them, also in the past years they always gave in to all the gun laws, BUTT this time they seem to be standing up to the evil ones, so am thinking of joining again if i can get over the JUNK MAIL.

Been a member for quite a while. I checked the opt out of any mailing, only thing they've sent me is info on some of the programs/offers they give to members. I haven't gotten any of the junk mail.

Been a member for years and years.  Like any organization, I don't agree 100% with what they do, but if we want to save our 2nd Amendment we HAVE to be organized.

First thing my wife said when she listened to the pres outlining his 23 executive orders was "I'm going to join the NRA too".  Actually that was the second thing - can't put the first thing on here!

Yeah well not all of us can check our mailbox every day. When junk mail clogs my box, other mail can get rejected. Besides, I want my money going towards the fight, not food for the garbage can. And yes, I would like some cheese. Is that Limburger I smell?

My apologies, Sir.  I never looked to see that "Poopers" was a handle and I took it to be a "generalization".  My mistake, and for that I apologize.  I was NOT directing my comments at YOU.  That, from me, would be Bad Form Old Man.

Been a member for 50 years. the "junk" mail helps fund the NRA. I save every piece of junk mail and use it to start my wood burning stove. It is terrific. Like one person said they seemed to have given up on NYS. I'm sort of disappointed they put no pressure on the upstate assemby men and let the bums from NYC ram Cuomo's bill through. I think they made a big mistake since other liberal governors will feel empowered to do the same thing.

I always hated the mail but over time I figured it must be the companies trying to sell us stuff pays for most of the mail not the NRA they just collect a % off it. So now I don't worry about it anymore . Just wish the paper was not so slick  ;)

Been a member about 34 years now.  What really ticks me off is there are about what, about 80 million legal gun owners, yet the NRA supports 3 million some odd members.  Could you imagine their political clout if every legal gun owner joined?  To many people stick their heads in the sand until its too late.....  Frankly, I would love to see a scheme by the gun manufacturers where if you want to be a dealer for said brand, you have to ensure a person buying a firearm has a valid NRA membership, (or other recognized pro-gun organization membership) before the sale.  Of course, membership applications would be available at the time of purchase.  Heavy handed?.... Yea, I guess so, but its about time everyone who enjoys the benefits of the Second Amendment did their part...

I agree Larry. I have often thought about that also. Like where are the rest of the gun owners? I realize some belong to the GOA, which is fine but their numbers are less than 500K. So we have just around 5% of gun owners being a member of a 2nd amendment group. I guess most just never feel their 2nd Amendment rights will be threatened. You know the ones that say "oh they will never come after my duck huntin, or my deer huntin gun" Then I'm sure there are the ones that have a couple guns in the closet, and never do anything with them, and just don't care.
Its pretty obvious that many gun owners have no fear of losing their firearms, because of the number of gun grabbing politicians that are elected.

Both the wife and I are Life members for over 40 years.  Certified NRA Shooting Instructors 28 years.  She has more issues than I do with their reasoning sometimes, but we both support them.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
