Updated today at 9:19 PM CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Two alleged Clarksville home burglars got more than they bargained for when the owner of the home they broke into fought back- with a loaded gun.
Police say Brandon Barnett and an unknown accomplice broke into a backyard barn where Mike Dreyer's ex-wife lives. Dreyer, who had a loaded gun next to his bed, received a phone call from his ex-wife, warning him that the men were breaking in early Tuesday morning.
Dreyer got his gun, rushed outside and fired a shot into the air. He told Barnett to get on the ground, which he did until police arrived.
The accomplice ran away and has not yet been caught.
Barnett is facing six charges including three counts of theft, three counts criminal mischief and one count attempted burglary.
According to police Barnett was also found with burglary tools in a backpack and lawn equipment stolen from two other homes.
Police say Barnett also broke into three cars including his ex-wife's vehicle.
