« on: January 18, 2013, 03:16:45 AM »
I know this is a little off subject but I went into local walmart for some 22lr and they told me they havent had any in acouple of weeks and didnt know when they might get any in.they didnt have much of any kind of ammo at all.So if this is any idication of things to come and you have a chance you might want to stock up.

I think you will find it's too late to stock up.  There has been a run on 22Lr ammo for some crazy reason.  My local dealer (35 years in business) said he cannot get 22LR ammo, the distributors don't have any.  The only stuff available on-line is the very expensive match grade ammo or the shot shells.  What little there is on the store shelves or the action sites is about it.  Check out Gunbroker, the prices people are paying are 2-4 times what retail was a couple months ago.  I don't understand it, but it's happening.

Yeah, rimfire ammo is really nonexistent.  I bought an M&P 15/22 just before the chaos and decided to stock up a decent supply. Only because I figured that it would never be any cheaper and I would be going through a lot of it.  Mostly bulk stuff which right now is gone. I have several thousand on back order from Cabala's at a really good price.  I won't be buying any more until this run on ammo settles down. Now you are lucky to find the 100 round packs. I also heard that Walmart was not going to be ordering anymore ammo until after the dust settles in congress.

The first time obama was elected, I started grabbing a box brick of winchester dynapoints every time I went to walmart.  when they stopped stocking those I switched to federal bulk, and after I tried federal auto-match, I switched to that.  I really don't know how many rounds of 22lr I have.
10,000 at a minimum, but probably a lot more.

Just so all you guys know. I spoke to a Walmart DM the other day, he says like Kmart, they will eventually stop carrying ammunition all together sometime early this year.
Atleast here in California.

If I were you guys, go to ammoseek.com and find retailers that way and stock up.  I regret only buying 450 .17HMR rounds now, I should have bought as many as I could. It is getting very hard to find these anywhere as well.

I really need to obtain my 1187 so I have some firearm with probable ammuntion sources.

you probably should have bought
a goodly supply beforehand.
i had been doing like b.e. and grabbing
up a bulk pack whenever i went to the
gun store and now i'm glad i did.
maybe things will cool down in a
while and we can get a decent store
of ammo and reloading supplies for
ourselves.
i think a lot of folks have learned a
hard lesson about planning ahead too.
i think it was james wesley rawles that wrote
ammo should be bought by the pickup bed load.

I'm really hoping things will turn around (not likely). Because right now I have a .45-70 Gov't that I have yet to start reloading for, and a .17HMR that is strating to become just as hard to find the ammo as the .45-70.
Thats why I feel the need to get a shotgun...and quick!

Here in Ca it is becoming very rare to find it on shelves in stores. However online is a different story. I was able to get the 17gr Hornady rounds for $9.99/box. Now where (and if) I do find them online, they are eithr $11+ a box, or not in stock anywhere.
Looks like I have 2 rifles now that are becoming rather hard to find ammo for. Kind of a shame.

22LR ammo in my neck of the woods is extremely scarce.  I have a few bricks of CCI SVLR laid back for my Sportster and my 39a.  Went to 8 different shops last week, and everybody is out.  You can find shorts and shotshells, and a little target ammo.  That's it!

However, all the stores had 17 hmr and 22 mag.
