All:

Just read a news article about a guy who uncased his shotgun for inspection to gain entrance to a North Carolina gun show. As you've probably guessed, it was loaded and discharged as he was removing it from the case. The round of birdshot wounded 3 people, no life-threatening injuries thank God!

It seems like when you're fighting your hardest to protect something worth preserving [ our rights ] , there's a line of people ready to give the opposition all the ammunition they need [ ...and yes, I'm aware of the irony of my statement... ]. I'm sure the idiot in question feels terrible about the incident, but it's just unforgiveable on multiple levels.

Thanks for tolerating my rant, and I sincerely hope I've not offended anyone with my use of strong language. And yes, I'm very relieved that no one was seriously injured. No one should have to die from, or be grieved for a careless act.

There will always be stupid incidents, (Dick Cheney), but all of them occur when we violate the rules of safety. The gun should never have been in the case loaded....and he should have double checked before he left home...and it should never have been pointed at anyone even unloaded.....

Are you sure that was an accident? There have been cases in past where anti has asked to see gun on table & slipped round in chamber unseen..and put gun back..next guy comes along..and BOOM! These low lifes do not care who might be injured or killed..even better as far as their agenda is concerned.

At another gun show a guy shot himself in the leg in the parking lot. Sometimes we are are own worst enemies. Remember it is not possible for an anti to load a gun at a show because several folk in the know here claim antis know nothing about guns.

Well the report clearly stated the owner was uncasing the gun at the entrance presumably to demonstrate it was unloaded. Well it was unloaded by the time the trigger was pulled.

Accidental? How about negligent. No one intends to shoot into a crowded room but accident doesn't really describe the entire event.

Being well conversed in gun safety is not a prerequisite to purchase, sell or handle a gun. How and where should that be addressed? Currently it is at the door to the show... As to loading a gun on the sly, show clear all the time every time, again, common good safety practices.

I avoid the gun shows on purpose. I can't remember the last time someone told of the smoking hot deal they found at a gun show. I can find all the beef jerky, import crap and slack jawed idiots I desire at Wal Mart. There are a plenty of high quality gun dealers in the area that I can visit.

Terrible that such acidents occur but I'll bet statistically speaking, gun shows are one heck of a lot safer to attend than the average county fair. I'll continue to occasionally take my chances at both

you are on to something. When that many guns are brought around that many people you either have a gun show or a battle somewhere pretty close.

There were three different incidents, total of 5 people wounded that same day. Hard to believe but I guess there are D.A's. ever were. Just what we need another nail driven in.

At our shows, the firearm must be uncased and the action open before you even enter the front to buy a ticket. First guy you see is a cop who tie raps the action open. All the firearms on the tables must be secured the same way.

An idiot would have to cut away the tie wrap and then load to get anyone inside.

I guess the parking garage is the most dangerous place ....

For many years at a gun show I attended, the security guys had a big plastic pickle jar partially full of various cartridges. Sticker on the jar read:

The Winchester Highwall in .219DW that I have use to belong to a friend who inherited it. When he still owned it he took it to a local gun show and I was with him. At that show off duty sheriff officers cleared the guns when entering. The only problem was that the officer did not want to give the rifle back saying "I just want to fondle it for a while."

I heard those reports and felt the same way. Like Mechanic says observe the safety rules and things will be good. Speaking of dumb, I bought a used shotgun a while back. Living in remote Alaska everything has to be mailed and I go thru a dealer. He got the box, did his book keeping but barely handled the gun. Took it home, assembled it and started to hand it to my son - for whom I bought the gun. At last minute I said - we need to check the magazine - IT WAS FULL!!! I should have checked while assembling but didn't. Shook me a bit to jack out 3 rounds. SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!!!!.

Now if gun users could just be safe and the nut cases stay away from guns for a while.............
