Gun Show idiots!!
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:19:16 AM »
3 different shows, 4 people shot. I've been doing gun shows for over 28 years, and this is a classic example of what happens when you get stupid people, or SPECIAL PEOPLE, with guns. They think rules don't apply to them. This past weekend, we had one of each at the Medina gun show. A special person, didn't think he had to check his gun at the door. Took the magazine out, but forgot that there was a round in the chamber. The dealer he handed it to, to trade it in, the stupid one, didn't check the gun either, pulled the trigger, and shot his friend next to him. Luckily, it hit the floor first, and hit the guy in the leg. Indianapolis, a guy shot himself in the leg, loading his carry gun out in the parking lot after he left the show. Raliegh, 2 people got shot, when they were checking a shotgun at the door, and it went off. I realize you can't fix stupid, but you can remind them of it. If your going to a gun show, and your friend is either to stupid, or special, remind them of it. The life you save might just be your own. gypsyman

The shotgun and the guy that handed the dealer the loaded hand gun may have been set up to make gun owners look bad.  Seems like to much of a coincident with the timing. I hope they are checked out and exposed if that is the case.  The idiot in the parking lot, well stupid is just stupid. He maybe should get  his carry permit taken and we can hope it makes other people not do some thing this stupid. Weather we want face it or not there are people that need training or should not handle guns. Few but some.

I don't know where y'all live, but, around me, for all my life for that matter, there are LOTS of people that shouldn't be allowed near a gun.
If you give up, THEY don't have to win.

I think a lot of what happened is an extreme number of people going to gun shows now.  I went to one in Montgomery Saturday.  I got there 15 minutes after they opened.  Line to get in was all the way around the side to the back of the building (Shriners) and hooked back into the parking lot.  I have gone to their shows for the last 25 years and have never seen that many people.  It was packed like sardines inside.  Did get some reloading supplies though.  Guns were outragously high on anything military.  Ammo was high on everything.  Did find some 8mm mauser though.  I haven't reloaded for old military guns like 8mm and 7.62x54 because the surplus stuff once was so cheap.  Now, might have to start reloading for them.  Never thought I would have to.  This show in the past only had one policeman checking guns.  They had two this time and two outside.

The extreme number and a lot of new gun owners can contribute to accidents.

Local stores like Gander Mountain, Bass Pro, Academy, and others can't keep ammo on the shelves.  223, 9mm, 308, and 22LR are all in short supply.  Never thought 22LR would be either.  Plenty of 40 S&W, ok on 45 acp, not good, but some on the shelves.  30-06, 30-30, 270 were on the shelves.  44 mag is also in short supplies around here.  This started after the election in November, and the shooting added to it.  Even Bill Clinton is telling dems to back off on gun control.  He grew up in Arkansaw and knows about the "good ol boys".  Obama doesn't.  He has no clue about the American traditions like hunting, shooting, and self defence.

Stupid I a agree.  However lets not blow things all out of proportion like the media.  I wonder just how many gun shows there were across the country this past weekend.... a couple hundred maybe several hundred?   How many people attended these gun shows over the weekend.... a few million?

So out of hundreds of gun shows across the nation, attended by millions of people there were incidents at 3 shows involving a handful of people.

I garantee you more people got hurt or killed driving to and home from the shows than got hurt at them.

It's a sad situation - people are in a full-blown panic mode.  People who normally shoot a box or two a year are buying everything they can get their hands on.

The mentality is no different than displayed by the Black Friday hordes every year.  If word got out that some Wal-Mart store was getting a huge shipment of ammo in on a certain day there would be people getting trampled (and probably shot) when the crowds rushed the store.

The recent so-called accidents (gross acts of negligence actually) at gun shows shows the level of panic and desperation that has overcome people - so much in a hurry he couldn't even take the time to open the case and check the gun before running off to the gun show with it!

It's just greed, the attitude "I'm gonna get mine and to heck with everybody else".
Think how much more we could accomplish if everyone had donated just 10% of what they spent on ammo to the NRA/ILA.  No, they are gambling on their 2nd amendment rights for a short-term gain of a few boxes of ammo!

I think a lot of what happened is an extreme number of people going to gun shows now.

I think thats exactly right, and to add to the large number, there was probably many that went, that are not very familiar handling firearms. As someone else said, they were just joining in on the panic buying. There are many people that buy guns and never shoot them or practice. Nor do the familiarize themselves with the gun they bought.

It is hard to believe the dealer behind the counter didn't follow safety rules. Like any time someone hands you a firearm, the first thing you should do is check the chamber for a round, and second never point the muzzle at anyone. Being he shot someone he didn't follow any rule. Goes to show you just because someone is a dealer in firearms, it doesn't make them intelligent about firearms. Accidents do happen, but accidents like these are due to nothing but ignorance.

Not that far fetched an idea. Yes, there are stupid people but does ANYBODY remember this many ACCIDENTS at husseins hated gun shows?? I don't. Hussein is pure evil, I'd put nothing past him in his drive to disarm law abiding Americans. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

There have been several incidents in past years, where a person was caught loading guns on the table's at gun shows. A definite felony. And, at the show I was at, I did talk to the promoter, and he said that probably 1/2 or better of the people coming into the show, were newbies. Still if you see somebody screwing up, say something. gypsyman

I think over the past couple months we've seen a bunch of new folks coming into the gun community.
Hopefully some of the people who have been here for years are spending time helping them get trained in safe  and effective use of thier new toys.

How  hard  is  it  to   remember  the  cardinal  rule  of  guns .  Dont  point  the  muzzle  of  a  gun  at  someone  ,  Loaded  or  unloaded.

Muzzle in a safe direction at all times
Action open until you are on the firing line
Trigger clear until  ready to fire

We used this at our gun club, if there is a mistake with one rule, the other two
 will maintain safety.
Best wishes

Although I agree we have gun shows as a right, I wish that right did not allow the getting together of people who are so very stupid that they can't handle the responsibility that comes with their rights.  I would not be against legislation prohibiting gun shows.  A gun show is like asking for something bad to occurr.  We have all done stupid things with guns.  We have dropped them, we have pulled the trigger when we should not have, and we have committed any number of unsafe actions.  To bring together firearm advocates in the hundreds or thousands, is to ask for a mistake.  I think we should live with our rights to firearms individually, without coming together to feed the dealers.  Gun shows are the mistakes that liberals love.
I mean to say that if we want a particular item, go shopping for it.  We do not need a gathering of our kind.  Every such event is an invitation for disaster, including fodder for the liberals.
I speak to no one who has the authority to stop gun shows.  The advancers of gun shows have their own agenda, and that is to make money.  If we didn't attend, they would suffer financially.  They make money on the tables they sell, and the money we pay to get it.  I'm saying that the continuance of gun shows do not advance or enhance our rights; it simply pays the people who arrange it, and the sellers who attend.  We don't need that.
However, the very existence of gun shows announces our rights.  In that, I'm all for it.

Like I said earlier don't blow these few incidents all out of proportion.  Personally I feel a lot safer at a gun show than I do on the highway driving to a gun show.

I've been to a lot of gun shows and the only thing that ever got injured was my wallet.  I very rarely go anymore, because I don't need to.

However, to suggest that gun shows should be eliminated is in a way whittling away at the Second Amendment.  The lib gun grabbers would love to shut em down.  It's time that we on the right should be thinking of how to shut down the left and not be thinking about ways to help them out, or pacify them.

May have to be concerned about drunks at gun shows however. The last one I attended just outside of Wichita served beer. I do not think that is a good idea.

One of the first things I learned when I started target shooting is that shooting and gun ownership crosses all demographics. You will find all kinds of people in the shooting sports and in gun enthusiast circles. In such a broad base, a few are bound to have poor safety manners.
