BSE Martini Henry
« on: January 23, 2013, 10:47:10 AM »
How many people are familiar with and using these fine old rifles?I recently acquired a #6 in chambered in .22,which should make a fine squirrel rifle-but I'm now looking  at those chambered in .300 for medium sized game-should be good for deer providing you pick your shots.I'm a firm believer in getting close, taking my time, taking a rest  and making one careful shot rather than relying on magnum firepower-and my freezer is very full

i have one martini cadet which is a small action made for the ausssies it has been re chambered to 357 mag it is a great deer gun the origilal caliber was 310 martini cadet or 310 greener which was a special cartridge just for this gun. not as powerful as 32-20 round. it shoots a 120gr bullet at 1200 f,p.s. for 385ft lbs energy.

.

FWIW, If you can take the heat (recoil), a .310 Cadet can be re-chambered to .32 Winchester Special, as classic a deer cartridge as the venerable .30-30 Winchester.

I currently have a BSA/Martini Model 12 takedown with P-H sights, that has the sweetest trigger I've pulled in over 30 years - to say nothing of the snappy ejection when the lever's dropped smartly.
