Americans more downbeat than at any time since Carter, poll says  Published January 23, 2013
FoxNews.com    WASHINGTON –  As President Obama begins his second term, he is facing an increasingly pessimistic public who believes that America's best days are behind them.
According to a recently released Gallup poll, 39 percent of Americans rated the current climate of the country as positive. That's about the same as it was in 2010 -- and has been the lowest recorded by Gallup since President Jimmy Carter's term in 1979.
Gallup asked Americans to rate their feelings about the country today, five years from now and five years ago. Based on a scale of 0 to 10, the 39 percent of Americans gave a 6-to-10 rating when asked to evaluate the nation's current climate.
Taken together with the 2010 reading, that's just above where the country was at the end of the Carter term -- when inflation was high and the economy was reeling.  At that time, just 34 percent had a positive outlook.

Optimism steadily rose after 1979, peaking in about 2001 at 73 percent -- since the 9/11 terror attacks, national optimism has steadily declined.
Now, with unemployment slightly below 8 percent and economic growth continuing at a meager pace, a similar malaise may be setting in. Even the outlook on the future is down. Forty-eight percent were upbeat about where the country will be in five years, also the lowest since 1979.
The survey also found that most Americans' attitudes toward the status of the country are connected to their political views. Republicans believe that when there is a GOP president in power, things are better. The same rings true of Democrats and their mood based on the party in power.

When it comes to the future, the polling agency found a 60 percentage-point partisan difference in optimism. Only 15 percent of Republicans felt positive about the future, compared to 75 percent of Democrats.
The Gallup poll results are based on telephone interviews conducted Jan. 7-10, 2012, with 1,011 adults. There is a 4 percentage point margin of error.

Well, of course Fox-dependents are bummed out--- fortunately they aren't the majority.   ;D

I guess it just all depends on where one gets their filtered news.

Aamer Madhani, USA TODAY
With Election Day now in the rear-view mirror, 54% of respondents said they believe the country will be better off four years from now, while 41 % said they'll be worse off. Majorities of Americans still say they think Obama will be able to accomplish such major policy goals as reducing unemployment, improving education, keeping the U.S. safe from terrorism and improving the health care system.

The election was stolen with all the voter fraud found in the toss-up states.  Especially with 102% and 148% of the voters voting in some districts, and 100% of them for Obama.  Republicans can't protest to the supreme court about the vote because of some kind of agreement in 1983 with them.  However, why hasn't the Libertarian or Constitution party protesting the vote.  I know they can't win, but they can help clean up the voter fraud, especially in the black districts.

In 1980  Reagan said, "Ask yourself, are you better off then you were 4 years ago?"
It worked and Mr Peanut was sent packing.
In 2012  when Romney said, "Ask yourself, are you better off then you were 4 years ago?"
It didn't work and "Da Kid from Kenya" was re-elected.
What happened?  In 1980 people were focused on working to make it better for everyone.  All Reagan promised was to create a climate where poeple had the chance to pull themselves up.
In 2012 Obama simply said, you know what?  Things are not better, America's best days are behind it.  But I have a plan!  I'll simply top-load the burden onto the backs of everyone (and thier children, grandchildren & great-grand children) who works, produces and has itegrity.  We'll simply take it from them and give it to you! The you's being the low-information voter's, 47%'ers, uber-libs etc.
54.1% deep-throated the lie and here we are.

On Saturday I went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast.  Near I-81.  Lots of black folks in the parking lot.  Went inide and learned that 4 buses of black people had stopped for breakfast on their way to the inaugeration.  That told me something about how the idiot got re-elected.  It also says a lot about the real racism in the nation.  There were zero white people on those buses.  Why do they bunch up like that?  If a white man was president, the buses would not be full of Negroes.  I really don't understand what's happening to us.  How can the food stamp and welfare people and the hispanics have so many votes?  Where do we go from here?

Sometimes they get counted more than once.  Election night, I was watching Romney carry a 500,000 to 1,500,000 vote lead in the popular vote until midnite.  The next morning, I read that obama had won by 3,000,000 votes.  Now, how does that happen?

Hey, no one ever said I never watch Fox. It's entertaining, in the same way as Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, or the Three Stooges movie. ("Bones" is probably their best show.") And, hey, ya gotta keep up with what's going on in the "enemy" camp, right? As far as insults, if some of you couldn't insult everything left of falling-off-the-world-to-the-right, you would not be able to think of anything to say.

Chung, I don't understand why you are here.  I've caused considerable discord myself, but I'm certainly not a liberal.
Regardin Fox news, "We report, you decide," is a tad off center.  They lean to the right a little bit.  I'm okay with that, and actually thankful for it, but it's easy to see they are not perfectly "fair and balanced."  Fox injects their conservative view points into the news, which they probably ought not do.  We already know from the news itself that all liberals are screwballs and need a thorough lashing.
It's plain that hispanics and blacks and slackers and users and takers and college kids are liberal, but it's difficult to comprehend a grown up person with a job and responsibilities with a liberal bumper sticker.

Why is it that OVER 50% of Americans watch Fox News?  And the other 50% watch all the others combined?  Fox is more fair and balanced.  I think they are too far left sometimes.  The economy sucks period.  It is all smoke and mirrows.  Population is increasing, yet work force is decreasing.  Never happened before.  Not enough workers to pay taxes for the other half.  Government is bankrupting itself.  When it reaches $20-22 trillion, they won't even have enough tax money to pay the INTEREST on the debt.  Then NO ONE will buy the government bonds.  Then it will create hyper inflation to pay the bills.  They will want to raise more taxes on the rich.  Rich will put their money overseas or give up their citizenship like several thousand have already done.  No investments by the rich in our economy because of taxes.  More factories going overseas.  New Dems just don't know how to run an economy.  Bill Clinton was an old fashioned American Democrat.  He knew how to compromise and work with the Republicans and get things done even if he was a sleezeball.  Obama is stubborn, narcissistic, and will not cut the budget at all.  Not enough money from the rich will cut the budget, only cutting what the government spends.  Obama is a communist, not a democrat.  Read his books, watch the movie 2016 Obamas America and you will see what his goals and objectives are.  Everything he has done, is in there.  Some people just need to wake up.  I'm not saying the Republicans are always right.  They are not.  The Patriot Act is an infringement on our privacy.  Homeland security is out of control.  Obama thinks he is a dictator and what he says he thinks is right and everyone should do what he says.  He is not a free enterprise type capitalist.  50% of every presidents appointments prior to Obama's were from the business or manufacturing world.  97% of Obama's appointments have been from acedemia.  Ivory tower elitist liberals who know nothing of running a business, only theories.

Give it a rest , Fox (fair and balanced my butt) is for the far right crowd , MSNBC (fair and balanced my butt) for the left crowd.
It's all filtered crap. They both promote bias agenda's. CNN use to be center left , now a bit center right after merger.

You want a good perspective on US news try Reuters , BBC or AP.(probably all a bit biased one way or the other but less so).

C-SPAN is unbiased (and boring as heck) because it is an unedited unfiltered window into government proceedings.

Here's a thought  - watch , Listen, read, and digest news from multiple sources,  research,  validate then decide for yourselves, and formulate your own opinions from facts garnered from multiple news sources rather than having it spoon fed to you in a news bubble from a single biased source.   -  Then you will be on the road of thinking for yourself rather than regurgitating what the talking head fed to you the night before.

PEW says 23% watch Fox for news, but don't let facts dissuade you. Keep the bubble intact.

Not everyone has cable news.  50% of CABLE news subscribers watch Fox.  CNN is cable and has maybe 30%.  MSNBC, CNBC, have the rest.  Some people still only have antennas.
