I would like to know if the cva firebolt musketmag 150 series in-line is a good muzzleloader. I entered a contest on the O'Neill outside web page and my name was picked for the jan. winner and this is the muzzleloader they were giving away.

Thanks.

Price was sure reasonable enough   I had one and there were certain issues I had with it........didn't like the safety,blow-by on scope was terrible, the scope mount screw holes were off somewhat and required scope shimming (that was probably just quality control and yours is probably fine),it was a lot of work to clean with bolt disassembly and readjustment, and the spanish barrel with rather low proof numbers wasn't too confidance inspiring for heavy loads but none the less it was pretty accurate and did what it was supposed to. For a free gun how can you loose?

I learned to live with the safety, once shimmed, the scope was OK, I never shot over 120 grs of pyrodex behind 250gr sabots for loads, and kept a cheap scope on it because after a couple years the finish on the bottom of the scope was destroyed. It lasted well and my son shot his first ML'er deer with it. I later traded it off and picked up a cheap break open that had no blow-by or floppy safety to deal with, cleaned up in about 5-10 minutes, and the scope holes were straight. Then I added a Savage Ml'er  to the cabinet and couldn't be happier.

I think yours will do what you want and work fine.

That it was. I have reservations about going more than CVA's own limit of 100 gr. of loose powder, and a few other things already well hashed. But, the Firebolt seems to be a reasonable gun (with a few caveats) for light use.
