High Plains Sporter .50
« on: January 25, 2013, 01:22:55 PM »
Couldn't resist it any longer so I pulled the trigger, so to speak. I'd never seen one before.

Same barrel as the T/C New Englander, pistol grip stock. Should accept the 12ga barrel as well!

Being a shorter barrel, I'm wondering if it's a PRB or conical rifle?

Hopefully, I'll find out tomorrow but in the meantime anybody shooting one?

Good choice!  You can't go wrong buying a muzzleloader.  In these days of 2nd Amendment rights and so called assault weaons, it's good to know they ain't tryin to get our frontstuffers.

Well, she's a PRB shooter!

3 shots to sight in, 5 in the bull at 50 yds w/ 75 gr 777.

No pics; I guess they need to be hosted on something like Photobucket, etc?

I had to scrub the barrel of gun oil for a bit but it cleaned up well, bore is excellent condition.

Supposedly had only 12 shots through it, but how do you ever really know..?

Anxious to get out toward the 100 yd line.

It's a 1-48 so should like shorter conicals like the Lee Real 250 gr. as well.

I bought a renegade off of gunbroker a few months back that was unfired. It had a prb and charge that had probably been it for decades. Took forever to get it out. The lube had hardened and was pretty much like glue. Had a heck of a time getting all of the non fired fouling out of the barrel, it was caked about 1/16 th inch, dry and crusty. But at least no rust under it. I think the fouling was acting like a moisture grabbed. Sure wasn't any oil in the bore. The excellent shape stock had a crack in it about an inch long that you could put a quarter in at the edge of the forend. Never know what qualifies for unfired and like new in box condition these days.  :D  I think I paid 150 for it so can't complain. I got the crack to seal up and hide under sawdust where it can't be seen so no biggy.
