Like all tyrants they feared the armed man and would send massive numbers of troops to overwhelm and destroy, then re-educate and relocate entire populations, which they could do simply because none could resist without arms. When the students in nys were polled on gun control, 60% said they were going to purchase a gun. When gun owners were polled 65% said they would not register what they own or turn anything in. Some figure there are 4-5 million firearms in nys and the chances of any jackbooted troopers or nat'l guard showing up at your door to confiscate them are nearly nil, and any effort to do so is tantamount to the establishment of anarchy and the beginnings of lawlessness and true chaos. I say to bring it on dammit and to get started with it. Find out what it's like to try and go door to door when at every door you leave half your company behind, face down and bleeding out. Soon enough both the cops and the guardia will find out that the price to enact and enforce a control over a armed population is far too costly.
One thing you know for sure - no nyc gun control cops will be coming upstate, bloomberg will see to that as he will mandate that order be maintained - that will take every single nyc cop on payroll. Also, they are scared of the dark and don't go anywhere at night where they don't have streetlamps or dount shops. You try puting a nyc cop somewhere upstate and without public restrooms they will explode or otherwise self-destruct simply because they don't know which side of the tree to whizz on.....
And it will get worse after that. Media outlets will be targeted as having borne false witness. Police will go crazy trying to restore order in the cities and they will be decimated by armed minority groups. The countryside will become free fire zones, as will the streets and alleyways. Nighttime in the cities will be lit by muzzle flashes, not streetlamps. There will never be enough police to restore order and the government will sue for peace.
As it has already been said - during the revolution, about 1/3 fought for freedom, about 1/3 were loyal to the crown and turncoats and about 1/3 sat on their azzes. I say that those who fight reap the rewards and the other 2/3s can live in the cities and be fed at the hands of their masters and elected politicians. There will be a restructuring of the country - cities with populations over 6 million will become city-states and the remainder of the areas will become free-states. There will be a great division between the cities and the states. There will be major differences in governance, with free elections going to the states and appointments in the cities. In the countryside, work, produce and food will be plentiful and efforts rewarded. In the cities, employment will become a grateful indenture and a slaves wages and sustenance will be the reward. The city-bound will have to obtain permission to leave and live in the country and to be able to provide for themselves and you will have to show your papers and get green cards at the borders. As for immigration, you will either come in through the front door or be seen as a moving target. We will either know who you are and you will speak the language of the land or you will be buried in it.
So what the hell are we waiting for.
