Short action caliber feeding in 700 LA
« on: January 27, 2013, 01:42:55 PM »
I'd like to have a new barrel fitted to a Remington 700 long action.  I have had good experience doing this in match rifles in which 308 was the cartridge.  Has anyone any experience with the 22-250 in a 700 long action?  The base rifle was a 30-06 with blind magazine.  I am not concerned about having to use new bottom metal; the rifle is going to get a new stock anyway.
Thanks,
Ed

The 700 LA will need to have its magazine box blocked to keep the cartridges to the front of  the box for best feeding. Since sort rounds are usually found in the short action version of the 700 it would be simplest to just form a block and swap the follower and spring for a short action version. The box should work ok.. The bottom metal is up to you but will have to be for the long action. Should be a simple swap. Good luck. Some might suggest swapping for a short a short action 700 as they are supposed to be stiffer. I would just say either will work just fine.
