PowerPistol powder
« on: January 27, 2013, 04:31:11 PM »
Thinking of picking up some Alliant PowerPistol powder for my .45acp, and .40.  Usually I use WW231 or Unique, but talked with a couple reloaders that said they had good luck with it, and thought I might give it a try. I realize that all guns will give different results, but figured why not throw it out there, and see what anybody else has done with it. Thanks-gypsyman

I had considered Power Pistol for my 40. What I was told by folks that use it is that as long as you stay near max loads, it works great. But it sucks for medium to light loads. I generally will load more to the middle of the book to the light end. In my book, a pistol isn't a long range weapon anyway. All I care about is accuracy and a comfortable shoot with my 40s and 45s. If I want my hand beat up, I have hand cannons.

ive used it alot in the 10mm for full power loads and its a great powder for that. Ive also used it like i would use unique or herco in the 44mag/special and 45 colt and its a great powder for that. Some of my most accurte 1000 fps loads in those calibers have used power pistol. It has become one of those powders like unique and bullseye that i just cant be without.  It burns clean in them at reduced pressures. For the 40 and 45 though i like a slightly faster burning powder. I use mostly aa2 and 231 in them. I shoot alot of them and its just more economical then using more of a slower powder. Im sure it would work great though especially in the 40 for full powered loads.

Power pistol is my preferred powder for .40 S&W loads.  I've also used it successfully in .45 Colt as well and I intend to try it for fast stepping .38 loads. For most .38 and all .45 ACP loads I tend to use W231.
