DNZ one piece game reaper questions/thoughts
« on: January 28, 2013, 08:53:00 AM »
Anyone using these?  I stumbled across these today on Midway. Will these hold up to recoil of a 45-70?  Thinking about a 2-7x32 on a 45-70 and a 3-9x40 or 50 on a 30-06, what size would I need?  Thanks in advance!

Lots of previous discussions on it, it's a good solid mount if you like really high mounted scopes which is all they make for H&Rs.   :(

I have many DNZ mounts... I like them alot... they are strong for any caliber recoil... they are high with a 32mm objective but not so much with 44mm+... (top gun is 32mm, second gun is 40mm) they fit perfectly for cheek weld for us with the ultra stocks.

Objective size is almost never an issue with Handis due to the height of the chamber swell and scope base, it puts the objective well above the barrel with almost any scope, the only time I've ever "needed" high rings was with a 56mm Hakko scope, the 50mm Whitetail Classic below is mounted in medium Burris Signature Zees, it did need a hammer extension on the factory height hammer, but it worked fine with sufficient clearance at the barrel, although the objective lens cover had to be "thinned" for clearance.

Scopes that are Handi friendly will have small ocular bells and/or power rings to avoid interference with the hammer.  ;)

Thanks for the info, probably gonna with a base/ring setup.  Looking at Burris zees or quad locks.  Scared of the lack of adjustment in the one piece.

As far as adjustment goes... I have never had a problem with any scope in the DNZ mounts... as far as height goes... Yes, there are other set-ups that can get you marginally lower with a 40-50mm scope, but as Tim says, when you get down that low, you had better have a slender ocular bell... there have been many threads about FTF's in Handi rifles, only to have the problem be the hammer (or extension) striking the ocular bell slowing the hammer and causing and incomplete stirke on the firing pin... getting the scope as low as possible is a good thing... except when there are other issues... such as ocular contact or (as in our case) the need for something a little higher to get a nice comfortable cheek weld and good sight picture... with the Ultra stock anything lower than the DNZ high mount is not comfortable for us.

I have a DNZ on my .243 and I like it. My other 2 handis have weaver rails and weaver extra high quad locks anything lower than an extra high my hammers have hit the ocular bell but I use redfield and bushnell scope as Tim said handis like small ocular bells
