I understand all too well what is called for.  SIL is in now.  Nephew recently got out and has lost a large portion of one hand.  Yet another acquaintance is in and stays in touch when he feels the need for some, let's say abstract,  ::) advice.  No matter the time or place or even political differences, the basic mechanics change only slightly.  Even my father who recently passed was able to pass on some sage advice to these young men and his experience was as First Scout for his outfit during the Battle of the Bulge.  Equipment is the only real difference and even then the mechanical basics vary very little.  My SIL and the other young man mentioned are in for the duration and will not waver and will work from the inside for all they are worth to keep the machine on track no matter the administration.

He's working to destroy the country (IMO) and there are a hundred malcontent, hate America, splinter groups doing their best to help him in his efforts..
As far as working inside to change the situation...how has that helped over the last 4 years?  Corruption is just another contaigous disease..and those who don't want to contract it..avoid the germ!

A better way to ask the same question might be...Where would we be if everyone who disliked the way things were going just walked away?

I understand I am not the only one with these skills. But I do think I know a bit more considering i have worked on the AR platform everyday, maintaining and repairing everyproblem you could immagine, and learning ways to prevent problems. These are skills that one culd never learn un less they are around them everyday day in day out (for 10+ years) this is the reason I got my current job with the Government even when there were 2 other components that had 20 and 30 years experience as a Traditional Gunsmith. So I like to believe I know a bit more on Machine Guns and the AR platform.......

Jr. I've never questioned your knowledge or abilities because I've had no reason to.  I merely pointed out some possible modifications that not everyone is aware of being possible.  At my age I've learned that experience isn't everything.  As an example, I've handloaded for 45 years or so and loaded more in a year than most guys shoot in a lifetime but one of the most important lessons I've ever learned was just a couple years ago and it came from a 16 year old who had only been shooting and loading a couple years.  Never let yourself get to the point you think you can't pick up something from someone else either young or old.  Sometimes just a different point of view can be a great thing.

BTW good luck with the latest new toy.  Hope to finish the latest for my granddaughter tomorrow.

IG I know you're proud of the boy but he's not the only one with ability or experience.

I realize that, but his is of recent and up-close-and-personal experience..and again, he is not alone.  I have met many of his friends and have decided that weuntil very recently had perhaps the best trained, best conditioned and most professional military we have ever fielded.
Unfortunately; with the recent "social engineering"  that has gone on  (sissyfying, political correctness, Washington turning on the troops, openly gays invited in etc, ....some of their very best are leaving.
IG jr was a Spec Ops Marine..and left, I am personally acquainted with 2 other elite type troops..one a Marine with the bomb detection dogs ..the other an Army Ranger in the " First Ranger Bn"..the original, historical unit..    They are both "hanging it up'..
Yes IG jr..Tim is now out and attending UB..and  Devin will be leaving the Rangers as soon as this hitch is done..in a couple months..
What a shame for the military to lose so many highly and expensively trained troops..  again these three are not alone.....

I apologize for any boasting..but yes, I am proud of him..and of the other two I mentioned... whom I saw grow from little boys..attending Sunday School right in our little country church..

I am quite proud of our fighting troops...however, the quality really goes down hill as we reach some of the highest ranks and the C-in-Chief.. ;) ;D

Here's jr with the sniping rifle he made (and used) as Spec Ops in Al Anbar Province, when it was really hot, in '05 & '06:
Oops!  That one didn't come through as a decent size, so I am posting one where Jr is about to take a combat run into some town in Al Anbar..Could be Fallujah, Ar Ramadi or Kubasayh.

As I said earlier..Jr wouldn't post these ..but Gramps would..

It is your right to name the thread anything you want and I stand with you on that!

But I am glad you are from Missouri, and all there like their firearms, if not this would concern me if I lived in Missouri. It is coming to a state near you so may I be so bold as to reccomend we stand strong and together to fight for all rights!

no disrespect to ironglowjr.   I learned a long time ago, just because one has been doing something a long time does not automatically mean expertise. Some have done it a long time and been doing it incorrectly the entire time.

True..the job where IGjr works has been operating since 1941..they have been following a certain procedure with machine guns since then..  He discovered and corrected this small mistake which has been costing them time, ammo and even guns..since 1941..
That is why he was awarded "employee of the month" in January (nearly 3,000 employees).  Discovery and innovation are always valuable...unfortunately, I made a disccovery concerning printed circuit ink at one time and put in a suggestion for it..but through a bit of preferential treatment, another employee was awarded a few thousand bucks for it months later.  I think we have all heard of such antics though.. ;) ;D

Nice set up and thanks for your service. But I read this entire thread and didn't see anything close to ripping on you. Some advice, some questions but no ripping. Take a deep breath.

The C in C (Criminal in Chief) is the lowest the USA has ever had. We need to survive to 2016 elections (if the liar in chief has not declared himself the first Emperor of America by then) and put someone in office who honors our soldiers and sailors and gives them the tools to do the job, and does not put them in never ending conflicts such as iraq and iran.

I'm still luke warm on ARs, just can't seem to warm up to them. I have some but haven't even fired all of them that I own. My 2 Remington R15s are set up as if sniper rifles, that is with scopes, but I don't remember having ever shot either of them. I have a couple of ARs set up as home defense guns which I have shot and are sighted in but I just don't seem to get out and use them.

all I can say bill is your missing out on what are probably some of the most accurate guns in your safe. Never had a rem 15 but my buddy has two of them and there both TACK DRIVERS. If I had less then 800 bucks in my wallet and the gun I had to buy had to shoot moa or better id give an ar a better chance at that price range then a bolt gun. Now im not saying you cant find a cheap bolt that shoots. But ive got 14 ars right now. Two more being built.  two of them were 1000-1200 dollar guns the rest are under 600 and ALL of them with the exception of one 556 that's one of the 1200 dollar guns (the stag 556) will shoot moa with a scope on them (and to be honest the stag does 1.5 and I bought it for home defense and its never been shot with anything but the aimpoint I put on it day one so with a scope id have to bet it too would do moa) A 4.5 inch 9mm ar15 pistol that doesn't for obvious reasons and my 7 in BO (although the 8.5 BO with a burris 3x prism will. Even my 50 beo will do moa with cheap renieer plated bullets.  (although my 9mm 16in cmmg has shot moa with CAST bullets!! . Some half that. So out of 14 3 wont and two are short barreled pistols with red dots and one hasn't really been given a fair chance. So really ALL the rifles were moa. Go buy 10 bolt guns for under 600 bucks and most with barrels around 16 inch and youd be a lucky sob to get 10 moa guns.

Took a while for me to see the beauty in black plastic and finishes that looked more like paint then bluing but so many days I came back from the range shaking my head at how amazing they shot. I could say about the same thing about black handguns. Yup there ugly but they go bang EVERY time and theres beauty in that too. When I first joined this fourm years ago my signature was and is single action junky. Didn't even own a black gun rifle or handgun. Now they probably out number the wood/blued guns 2 to 1. Ill add one more thing bill. Two years ago I went out west to visit my sister in montana. Brother in I went shooting praire dogs. I took my normal two dog guns and an ar15. Before the end of the day I couldn't pry it out of my brother in laws hand. Its a blast when you have 3 or 4 of them out there and you can pop them that fast. I left back to Michigan without that AR!

Back when Remington first got into the AR selling business I bought two of their R15s both full camo, I'm an easy mark for folks selling camo guns. I think I paid over $1000 for both but can't recall just what I did pay, may have been over $1200 for the one I still have. It was an 18" barrel special edition with the name of some well known guy attached to it. I let the 22" barrel one go fairly early on for a black rifle and wish I'd held onto it. I think it likely would have been the more accurate and for sure would have given the most velocity for longer range work.

I took both of them with me on a prairie dog hunt but wound up using on my bolt guns in .17 Fireball and .22-250 on that hunt, didn't fire either of the ARs. Some of the other guys were using ARs on that hunt.

I have one set up with a Graybeard Outdoors marked upper in 6x68 which is the 6.8 SPC necked down to 6mm. It's a pretty hot little number but I've never fired it. Matt went thru one box of 50 rounds with it and that's all that gun has ever been fired. It has the GBO logo and name on the cover thing over the chamber and also out on the barrel.

I may have the only one so marked in the world. Black Hole offered them via this site back when they were a sponsor here and I got one. I'm unsure if anyone else ordered one from them or not. They never made arrangements to provide dies to reload it and only told how to reload it using a set of bushing dies from Redding and a 6.8 die set from someone else.

I have a replacement 5.56 barrel I was going to put in it but just never have.

I've got an Armalite brand gun also, I think that's the one Matt has on loan from me and a Charles Daly they offered for only a few short while. It's a milspec gun that came with the tall front sight and a removable carry handle over a flat top upper.

The Daly and an Adams Arms gas piston rifle are my two home defense ARs. One is set up with a Burris 3X AR prism sight and the other has a Bushnell 1-4 AR scope on it. I have a couple of the Aimpoint sights, one is on the Armalite Matt has and the other isn't on a gun at the moment.

I got a Remington R15 in .30 Remington AR that is still unfired. It is set up with a nice scope and has a 22" barrel. With that barrel the ballistics of the .30 RAR exceed the ballistics of the .308 in the normal 16" barrels most AR10s come with.

I am set up to load for it and have either 600 or 800 rounds of factory ammo for it and a set of dies to reload the ammo. I think I spent as much money on ammo for it as I did on the rifle.

My best friend and shooting partner died back in 2001 before the 9-11 attack and since then I just haven't been able to get back into shooting by myself. So I rarely go out to shoot even tho I have a 100 yard range in my back yard.

the buddy I have that has the two rems is probably the most knowledgeable gun crank ive ever met. Hes forgot more then I know. His friends are the whos who list of the gun world. He actually doesn't like long barreled ars or even isn't a big fan of camo but he wont part with those two rem ars. Don't blame him after seeing the groups they shoot. Have to admit that 22 inch gun looks awkward right until you walk up to the target!!

.
Sorry guys, but Ironglowjr will not likely be participating.  He was on another thread back in 2013, but got served a bunch of crap by somebody, not anybody in this thread.and he dropped out.

I can speak to him , to see if he will come back, but he is very busy now. He still has his gunsmith shop in operation and also is part of a country-rock band that is very busy in the KC area.

His main job is with NATO..as a weapons tester and designer, but I can't tell you anything about that..since he can't tell me anything about it.

He carries his top secret clearance...my clearance was only secret , it's expired, and I clearly have no "need to know".. so I don't get any info.

If he had stayed with GBO, he would have been a great source of info, especially for the M16 & AR rifles

Below, see rifle and bench where he worked for a well known sniper rifle firm which furnished among others, Chris Kyle.

Note the extra barrels in the background..

Second photo, a rifle he built for a client in his own shop. Yes, he had personal sniper experience..since he and another were designated snipers (overwatch) for their Marine Spec Ops (MARSOC) unit.

He builds sniper rifles for police departments, most in .308, since that is the ammo the police departments get.  Sometimes a 6.5 Creedmore.

If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
